Donna Schiltz, 79, of Miller and formerly of Wessington, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2017 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Miller with Father Chester Murtha, celebrant. Burial followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Wessington. Visitation began at 3:00 p.m. followed by a 4:00 p.m. prayer service, Sunday, July 9, 2017, all at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Miller.

Donna was born on March 13, 1938, at the family farm North of Wessington to Anthony and Mildred (Gould) Fernholz. She attended country schools and graduated from Wessington High School in 1956. She attended Northern State College, in Aberdeen, and got a degree in business.

She married Boyd (Tom) Schiltz on October 4, 1958, at St. Martins Catholic Church, in Huron, SD. To this union, they were blessed with four children: Douglas (Karma) Schiltz, Wolsey, SD, David (Dorinda Dumond), Ankeny, IA, Brenda (David) Struck, Wolsey, SD and Terry (Nancy) Schiltz, Huron, SD.

She was active in St. Josephs and St. Anns Altar Societies, St. Josephs Choir, sewing for the troops and the Black Hills Quilters Guild.

She was employed by the Bureau of Reclamation and the Farmers Union until joining her husband in his many business ventures.

She is survived by her four children, twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters: Marlys (Clair) Bonebright Wessington, SD, Marilyn (Ed) Fitzgerald, Rapid City, SD, Mary (Monte) Rowen, Aberdeen, SD; brothers; Donald (June) Fernholz, Wadsworth, OH, and Larry (Cindy) Fernholz, Wessington, SD.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Tom in 2012; her parents; a sister, Arlene; brothers-in-law: Joe Bushong and James Miedema; sister-in-law, Marlene Miedema; niece, Tina Zidan; nephews: Barry Fernholz, Jim Bonebright, and Brad Fernholz.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Donna’s arrangements.
