Mildred H. Anderson, 95, of Lebanon passed away Sunday, July 09, 2017 at the Avera Oahe Manor, Gettysburg.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2017 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Gettysburg with Pastor David Otten presiding. Burial followed in the Lebanon Cemetery. A prayer service was held  7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Luce Funeral Home, Gettysburg with visitation one-hour prior.

Mildred Hazle Huyck was born December 15, 1921 to Ralph and Constance (Paulson) Huyck. She grew up in the Lebanon area and attended country school at Lucas 28th District, graduating from the 8th grade.

On February 22, 1938, she was united in marriage to William Anderson at the Christ Lutheran Parsonage in Lebanon with Reverend Kruger presiding. In March of that year the young couple set out for Idaho where they lived for one year before coming back home and moving to the Henry Maas farm where they lived for five years. They then moved to the Frank Simon place where they lived for four years. From there they moved to the Bill Baum farm south of Lebanon. To this union eight children were born: Virginia, Roxy, Walter, Richard, Judith, Constance and Roger. In 1956 the family moved to Lebanon where they resided.

Mildred was a Sunday school teacher, bible school helper and was active in the Ladies Aide at Christ Lutheran Church. She has been a local and active member of the Lebanon Legion Auxiliary for 50 years and has held many offices. Mildred enjoyed spending time making quilts and items from hard plastic; sharing these with family.

Her life will be cherished by her children: Roxy (Rudy) Jacobs, Tolstoy, Walter (Carol) Anderson, Gettysburg, Richard Anderson, Brookings. Judith (Ron) Michlitsch, Park Rapids, MN, Constance Kiernan (Joel Christiansen), Lebanon, and Roger (Pat) Anderson, Chula Vista, CA; 17 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and one brother, Clifford Huyck, Desert Palm Springs, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; daughter, Virginia Mikkelson; infant daughter, Phoebe; two granddaughters: Jackie Reyes and Patty Huckfelt; brothers: Harold, Frank and Glenn Huyck; and sisters: Alma Maas Bowman and Ellen Cole.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Mildred’s arrangements.

  3. Memories abound of Aunt Mildred!!! Our visits from Michigan were always too short, we tried to cram so much into one week. We could always count on Aunt Mildred and Uncle Bill to come up with something fun to do for just us girls. I wish Michigan and South Dakota were closer together then and now.   11. Rest in Peace Mildred. We always had good visits when I came up to the Manor. Lots of the time we talked about the good old days and how her life was in that era. She always called me a kid and gave good words of advice. I gave her a ride in a carriage with my mules when she was the Queen of the Lebanon celebration and that was a highlight in her life.

  12. May the family and friends of Mildred be comforted by the promise that God " will swallow up death forever, and will wipe the tears from all faces.." (Isaiah 25:8) What a wonderful time to look forward to when we’ll never have to experience losing those dear to us in death ever again!
