Evelyn Thompson, 89, of Pierre, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Avera Maryhouse, Pierre.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Luze Funeral Home, Highmore with Rev. Sara Kayser officiating. Burial will follow at the Highmore Cemetery.

Evelyn Mae Thompson was born on December 29, 1927, in Osceola, South Dakota, to Roy and Ruth (Whites) Noe. Evelyn moved to Hyde County when she was 5 years old. She attended rural Hyde County elementary school and graduated from Highmore High School. She was baptized into the Lutheran Church in Seattle, Washington.

Evelyn moved to Seattle in 1948. She was united in marriage to Heyward O. Thompson on April 7, 1956, in Seattle, Washington. In November of 1978, she retired from General Motors as an accountant. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling to numerous country music concerts, working in her yard and garden, and kept up her dancing which she enjoyed all her life. She loved the water and all the activities that she was able to watch from her patio doors.

She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Delta chapter for many years and also an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Seattle. She moved to Pierre in August of 2011, where she resided until her death. She made several special friends while living in Pierre, including Merrill and Karen Olson and canine companion, Colby.

She is survived by her special niece, Marlene Carroll of Harrold, SD; nephew, Jim Olson of Pringle, SD; one brother, Gerald Noe of Bellingham, Washington; and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Heyward O. Thompson; her parents, Roy and Ruth (Whites) Noe; and three sisters: Shirley Pullman, Doris Rubendall, and Donna June Olson.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Evelyn’s arrangements.

  1. I will always remember you fondly. I keep cherished memories of visiting you for Christmas, Thanksgiving, outings to Camano Island and time spent with you in your beautiful home in West Seattle close to my heart. Love and God Bless.

  2. I also have very fond childhood memories of time spent at my Aunt Evelyn’s in Seattle and especially at the cabin on Camano Island. I will never forget how she helped Mary Jo and I when we needed her most.

  4. I enjoyed my time with Evelyn at the Hair Affair Salon in Pierre. Over the years, she shared wonderful memories of her life in Seattle with me. She loved to talk about memories of dancing, fishing, camping and her lovely home. I will remember Evelyn for her witty personality and genuine outlook on life. She will me missed.
