Celius “C” Wherry, 95, of Faulkton, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Faulkton Area Medical Center.

Funeral Mass was held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Faulkton with Father Christopher Hughes presiding. Burial followed in the St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, Faulkton. A rosary was prayed one half hour prior to the service.

Celius A. Wherry was born September 18, 1921 to Melvin and Mary (Rudd) Wherry at the home place near Orient, SD. He attended school in Orient. On November 23, 1943 C was united in marriage to Regina Speck in Faulkton.

He worked four years at Dahme’s Garage, four years for the Farmers Elevator, and then worked for the South Dakota Department of Transportation for 29 years.

C enjoyed working, especially carpentry and lawn mowing. He also loved to fish at the river.

Those left to cherish C’s life include his children: Richard (Phyllis) of Milbank, Don (Sandy) of Sun City West, AZ, and Diane (Brad) Becker of Aberdeen; nine grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; sisters: Maureen Gerdes and Donna Roth of Miller; brother, Dennis (Lola) of Abilene, TX; brother-in-law, Delbert Christiansen of Northglenn, CO; and sister-in-law, Mavis Wherry of Santee, CA.

He was preceded in death by his wife; infant son, Eugene Francis; brothers: Werner and Bernard; and sister, Eileen Christiansen.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Celius’ arrangements.
