Nola Schmidt, 60, of Hoven, passed away Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Bowdle Healthcare Center, Bowdle, SD.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2017 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Hoven, SD, Fr. Brian Simon, Celebrant and Fr. Kevin Doyle, Con-Celebrant. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery. A wake service was held at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the church, with visitation one hour prior.
Nola Nadine Vilhauer was born May 16, 1957 in Eureka, SD to Darvin and Marilyn (Lutz) Vilhauer. She grew up in the Herried area where she attended high school, and in 1975 she received her G.E.D.
While in high school, Nola dated Eugene Schmidt. They spent 30 years apart before marrying on March 28, 2003.
Nola worked at Key Insurance and Real Estate in Mobridge for the past 27 years. In her spare time she loved attending her grandchildren’s school and sporting events. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, camping, fishing, and having large family gatherings. Nola spent every morning, on her trips to Mobridge, talking to her parents on the phone.
Those left to cherish her life are her husband, Eugene Schmidt, Hoven; her children: Jamey (Sadie) Steiger, Mobridge, Carrie (Brandon) Tennant, Faulkton, and Brenda (Jay) Kleinknecht, Aberdeen; grandchildren: Alexandria, Jacob, Jared and Joel Steiger, Catilyn and Gage Carter, Brooklyn Tennant, Taryn and Ethan Fergel, and Kody Kleinknecht; mother, Marilyn Vilhauer, Herried; aunts and uncle: Steve (Michelle) Vilhauer, Herried and their children, Heidi and Steven, Idella Fried, Aberdeen, and Adam (Carol) Lutz, Bobby (Betty) Lutz and Elaine Levi, all of Artas; and her brothers and sisters-in-law: Marlyn Grismer and Betty (Joe) Geier, Bowdle, Karen (Marven) Steensen, Elko, NV, Rose (Leonard) Schatz, Gettysburg, Elaine (Gerald) Kosters, Selby, Evie Sautner (Bill Schaefbauer), Sioux Falls, CJ (Jim) Krogmann, Omaha, NE, Imelda (Rick) Simon, Gettysburg, and Ray (Camille) Schmidt, Aberdeen.
She was preceded in death by her father, Darvin, on February 28, 2017; one granddaughter, Katelyn Tennant; sister-in-law, Sharon Mardian; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Nola’s arrangements.
