Walter Krueger

Walter Krueger, 89, of Miller, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society in Miller.
Funeral service with military honors was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 11, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Miller with Rev. Max Miller officiating. Visitation was held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 10, 2017 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at Reck Funeral Home, Miller. Burial was at 11:00 a.m., MST, Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis.
Walter Raymond Krueger was born January 19, 1928, in Fairfax, South Dakota to Albert C. and Louise M. (Dietz) Krueger. He graduated from Fairfax High School in 1947. After high school, he farmed and worked construction. In 1951, he joined the U. S. Navy and he spent most of the four year service aboard the U.S.S. Curtis. This ship and crew was assigned to take part in the first hydrogen bomb test in the Pacific. He was considered an Atomic Veteran.
In 1952, he married Corrine Thiel in Fairfax. After the Navy, he went to school in Salt Lake City and worked for a short time for the Southern Pacific Railroad in California. Shortly after that, he went to work for Air Products and Chemicals also of California and he worked for this company for thirty three years. For sixteen of these years, he traveled for the company as a Start Up Engineer which consisted of starting up Cryogenic plants in the United States and around the world.
In 1973, they moved to Denver, Colorado and he spent seventeen years as a Plant Superintendent for the Rocky Flats Nitrogen Plant. He retired in 1989, and they moved to Miller in 1994.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. Walter was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Miller. He loved fishing and billiards and enjoyed playing cards, reading and gardening.
Walter is survived by his wife, Corrine of Miller; a brother, Ivan of Houston, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: August, Alvin, Milton, Earl and Larry; and sisters: Helen Brunmeier, Alice Brunmeier, and Dorothy Frasch.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to Good Samaritan Society of Miller, Avera Courtyard Villa of Miller, or Trinity Lutheran Church of Miller.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Walter’s arrangements.




Corrine, I am so sorry for your loss. Walt was a great guy and will be missed.
