Ronald George Wieseler, 69, of Polo, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017 surrounded by his family at home.
Funeral Mass was held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at St. Liborius Catholic Church, Polo with Father Christopher Hughes, celebrant. Burial followed at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Polo. Visitation was held at 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 27, 2017 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.
Ron was born on June 14, 1948 to Dominic and Josephine (Sprenger) Wieseler in Faulkton, South Dakota. He attended Saint Liborius grade school and graduated from Fairview High School in 1966. He graduated from Dakota State College in 1971. On April 8, 1972, Ron married Sharon Barkley at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church in Geddes, South Dakota. Ron worked various jobs in education and retail until 1978, when he moved back to Polo to farm. He retired from active farming in 2002, then worked as a crop insurance adjuster until 2012.
Ron enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling to watch his grandchildrens’ activities. He also enjoyed fishing, especially ice fishing, hunting, watching auto racing of all types, driving his Mustang, attending toy shows, and repairing toys for children. He especially enjoyed hunting with family and friends. After retiring, Ron spent his time working in his orchard, building ice shacks, deer blinds, and even a bridge.
Ron was a member of Saint Liborius Catholic Church, where he served many years on the parish finance committee. He was also a long time member of the Polo/Orient Knights of Columbus, and served on various local boards and committees through the years.
Ron is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Lisa and Eric Christianson of Fargo, ND, Matt Wieseler and Amy McKee of Falls Church, VA, Ben Wieseler of Gettysburg, and Rita and Mike Moe of Aberdeen; grandchildren: Sierra, Autumn, Kaitlyn, Colt, Tyler, Evie, Mason, Xavier, Felix, and Pierce; brothers: Dennis and Virgena Wieseler of Pierre, Jerry and Carol Wieseler of Groton, Pat Wieseler and Michelle Burleson, both of Watertown; parents-in-law, Ray and Lois Barkley of Lake Andes; Sharon’s brothers and sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Josephine Wieseler; and sisters-in-law, Lorraine Wieseler and Bonnie Barkley.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to any family you know who is fighting cancer.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Ron's arrangements.

Thanks for the memories Ron! We had a wonderful childhood! Dear Sharon & family, We we so sorry to hear about Ron. It seemed so sudden–he’s certainly gone too soon. Since I was in the class just above him, we spent many years in the same room since all the Polo classrooms had 2 or 3 grades together. I remember Ronnie as such a good, kind, and pleasant person. I’m sure he was a wonderful husband, father, and grandpa. May God bless you with comfort and peace in your very difficult loss. We must trust Him!
