Kyle Harrison
May 27, 1989 ~ December 26, 2017
Kyle Jordan Harrison “Wanbli Gleska Hoksila” was born to the late Charmaine (Hale-Harrison) and Lloyd Harrison on May 27, 1989 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. MST, Saturday, January 6, 2017 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte, with Mother Mikayla Dunfee presiding. Burial followed in the UCC Cemetery, Cherry Creek.
Kyle lived a majority of his childhood in the Red Scaffold and Takini area. Kyle graduated from Takini School on May 24, 2007 as class Salutatorian. While in High School at Takini School, Kyle was involved with basketball, golf and cross country earning many medals. Kyle began his education with the Takini FACE Program.
After high school, he enrolled at United Tribes Technical College in the Environmental Science Program in 2008. He later enrolled at OLC in Eagle Butte, SD for General Studies. After college he worked various jobs as a flagger for road construction with bordering states during the summer months. Kyle later worked at Lakota Thrifty Mart and Eagle Stop, Inc. In 2013, he became ill and could no longer work.
Kyle’s hobbies included camping with Amos Cook and Phyllis Bald Eagle Tiospaye; as they would travel to Pow Wows and sing with the “Little Crow Drum Group.” Kyle sang in a Hand Drum Contest in Bridger, SD and won. Kyle always enjoyed his Lakota Culture, and he was always eager to learn more.
Kyle enjoyed fishing at Buffalo Lake with his family and friends, as they would sit late into the night determined to catch “the big one”. Kyle would try to help his dad work on mechanical and other projects outside, even though he was ill. He said he wanted to help so that his dad would coach him on the projects they were doing. On summer weekends Kyle and his brother Clinton, along with girlfriend Carissa, would drive to the Mobridge shooting range and practice target shooting. While there, Kyle would be his goofy self and imitate a zombie or say something funny that kept them laughing and not able to hit their target.
Kyle rode annually with the Spirit Riders to Little Big Horn Battlefield Celebration in Montana. He also participated in the SiTanka Ride to Wounded Knee, SD. Kyle could not participate anymore, but he would love to tell his stories and experiences with family and friends. Members recall that he would help carry, maintain and load the weapons and help prep the flags and flag stands. Also on one occasion, he helped a member drive to Fort Riley, KS for a medical appointment. He got to see soldiers running around with night vision goggles-it is imagined that they may have blinded them with the headlights! J
Kyle met the love of his life, Carissa Brown Wolf. Carissa had been with him in sickness and in health, as she was with him at his appointments. When Kyle was hospitalized, Carissa was there to help him as Kyle didn’t want the nurses to see him in his gown. If you knew Kyle, he was a comedian and always had something funny to say. Throughout Kyle’s illness, he and Carissa bonded strongly together through good times and hard times. They never had children together, but they had two loves they treated like children: “Ollie”-a blue heeler and “Kiwi”-a grey tiger cat.
Kyle is survived by his loving girlfriend, Carissa Brown Wolf, “Ollie” and “Kiwi”, Dad: Lloyd Harrison, Stepmom- Patricia Red Fox, Brother: Clinton Harrison, Sister: Amber Kills Crow, Maternal Grandparents: the late Robert Hale and the late Isabel Ward Hale, Paternal Grandparents: Ned and Jean (Begaye) Harrison of Utah, Uncles: Herbert Hale of Eagle Butte, SD, Cleo Hale of Cherry Creek, SD, James (Shirleen) Harrison of Utah, Aunts: Martha (Eric) Hernandez of Rapid City, SD; Connie (James) Bear Stops of Red Scaffold, SD; Janice and Loretta Harrison of Utah, and numerous Grandfathers and Grandmothers, Aunts and Uncles, Nieces and Nephews.

I WAS SORRY TO HEAR OF HIS PASSING, HUGGS AND MORE HUGGS
I am so sorry to hear of Kyle’s passing. He was a witty and kind person who valued the company of family and friends. I will never forget the high school graduation speech he gave; he was a confident and gifted speaker and made the whole gym laugh with his jokes and insights about his classmates. I am deeply sorry to Lloyd and family for their loss, Kyle will always be remembered fondly by me and my wife.
