Oren Smith

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 4, 2009 at the Agar Hall in Agar with Pastor Brian Lemcke officiating. Burial followed in the Onida Cemetery with full military honors. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the Agar Hall.
Oren was born January 14, 1938 in Onida to Gilbert Thurman and Alice Cecila (Bush) Smith. He attended rural country school and graduated from Agar High School in 1957. He went on to join the Marine Corp on May 29, 1958. Oren was honorably discharged on June 1, 1961. He returned home to work as an electrician for Onida Electric.
He married Deanna Smith in Agar on July 10, 1960. They moved to Iowa in 1969 where he owned and operated his own electrical contracting business, Smith Electric. After his retirement in the early 2000’s, they returned to Agar. He spent his time being with family, grandchildren, fishing and gardening.
Oren is survived by his wife, Deanna of Agar; three children: Dan (Lori) of Rapid City, Jan (Brad) Norris of Pierre and Darrin (Laurie) of Huron; eight grandchildren: Amanda and Connor Smith, Dylan, Courtnie and Becca Norris and Cassandra, Donovan and Shealay Smith; one great granddaughter: Addison; two brothers: Lester (Irene) Smith and John “Jack” (Sandy) Smith both of Pierre; one sister, Sandra (Bill) Griese of Gettysburg; and one special dog, Tuffy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Maryln Smith
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Oren's arrangements.

Dear Smith Family,
