Marvin Weyand

Marvin Weyand, 83, of Faulkton, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018 at South Dakota Human Services, Yankton.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 16, 2018 at the United Church of Faulkton, with Pastor David Birkeland presiding. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service. Burial followed in the Faulkton Cemetery, with military honors.

Marvin A. Weyand was born April 20, 1934 in Faulkton, SD to Oscar and Clarice (Hall) Weyand. He attended rural Tamworth Country School and Faulkton High School, later receiving his G.E.D.

On May 25, 1955, Marvin was united in marriage to Johanna Linderman at St. Thomas Catholic Church. They made their home in Faulkton where Marvin worked for area farmers. In February 1956, Marvin enlisted in the United State Army. He served in Germany and was honorably discharged in January of 1958.

Upon his return from the service, Marvin worked with farmers and ran a repair shop at the Weyand farm. In 1982 he opened Weyand Repair in town, operating until his health forced him to slow down.

In Marvin’s free time he enjoyed welding, making steam engines, working with metal, spending time with his family and staying active.

Those left to cherish his life is his wife, Johanna Weyand of Faulkton; his children: Marviline (Mike) Thomas, Aurora, CO, Joann Orr, Plattsmouth, NE, Marlon (Barb) Weyand, Miller, Jerry (Corrine) Weyand, Faulkton, Marvin (Tina) Weyand Jr., Sisseton, and Jolene (Jon) Messerschmidt, Watertown; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three siblings: Richard “Dick” Weyand, Faulkton, John (Charlene) Weyand, Jeannette, PA and Roger Weyand, Georgetown, TX and one brother-in-law, Ernie Stuebner, North Wildwood, NJ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Stuebner.
