Arnold Webb, 90, of Harrold, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Avera Maryhouse in Pierre.

Funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Harrold Auditorium, with Pastor Kippy Udehn officiating. Burial followed at Medicine Hill Cemetery, Harrold. Visitation began at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2018 followed by a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at Luze Funeral Home, Highmore.

Arnold Webb was born June 25, 1927 to Ernest and Rose (Rickels) Webb. He graduated from Harrold High School in 1945, attended Huron College, and was drafted into the service. Arnold served 2 years in the army at Fort Hood, Texas and six years in the reserves. He married his sweetheart, Dorthy Knudtson, on February 21, 1954. They were blessed with three children: Jerome, Alinda, and Patricia. They lived on the family farm south of Harrold until moving to Edgewood Senior Living, Pierre, in 2017.

Arnold was active in the United Methodist Church, having served as chairman of the board, on the board of Trustees, and also as a lay speaker. He was a 4-H leader for 20 years, and was inducted into the State 4-H Hall of Fame in 2002. He was a member of the Rising Sun Chapter #86 Order of the Eastern Star for 64 years; belonged to the Prairie Rattlers Antique Auto Club - driving his 1926 Model T Ford. Arnold also belonged to the Ballroom Swishers dance club. He enjoyed music and played his accordion at many events. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Harrold/Blunt, and he was the master three times and secretary for 14 years. He served on the Hughes County Weed Board, Oahe Electric Co-op, Harrold School Board, and the Harrold Senior Center.

He was active in the senior games. In 2008 he was awarded a plaque for being the outstanding athlete over 80 years old. In 2012 he was inducted into the State Senior Games Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed spending time with their special friends Roland and Betty Kleinschmidt, and Rollin and Virginia Barnes.

Survivors include his wife, Dorthy; son, Jerome (Deb) Webb, Harrold, SD; daughter, Alinda (Robert) Wiarda, Dell Rapids, SD; daughter, Patricia (Jeffrey) Mitchell, Aberdeen, SD; grandchildren: Jeremy (Amy) Webb, Ryan (Jami) Webb, Rosy (Dustin) Renken, Anthony (Lauren) Wiarda, Jordan (Nikki) Wiarda, Bryan (Chelsa) Wiarda, Jessica (Tom) Schneider, and Taylor (Dani) Mitchell; great-grandchildren: Jonah, Carter, and Maya Webb, Kaylie and Kinsey Webb, Morgan Renken, Abbie Wiarda, Canyon Wiarda, and Benson Schneider; brother-in-law, Melvin Hauge; sisters-in-law, Marlene Knudtson and Carolyn Hood.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ernest Jr.; sister-in-law, Ruth Webb; mother-in-law, Mildred (Knudtson) Erickson; fathers-in-law, Simon Knudtson and Vern Erickson; sisters-in-law: Virginia Hauge, Delores Myers and Barb Knudtson; brothers-in-law: Ralph Myers, Melvin Knudtson and Marvin Knudtson.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Arnold's arrangements.

  1. We are so sorry to hear this. We have so enjoyed being part of the Church Family with Arnie and Dorthy for so many years. Our thoughts and prayers and with your family. We fly out to Seattle for Jay’s work on Friday morning, so we will plan to attend the prayer service on Thursday evening.
