Lorraine Thompson, 86, of Faulkton, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Funeral services to honor Lorraine’s life were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton with Pastor Sam Ruckman presiding. Burial followed in the Faulkton Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service.

Lorraine Dawn Soule was born October 18, 1931 to R. J. and Dorothy (Brouse) Soule at Faulkton, S. D. where she grew up and attended school graduating from Faulkton High School as Salutatorian in 1949.

She was united in marriage to Merlin P. Thompson on June 30, 1952 and two daughters were born to them. Their happiness was cut short all too soon when Merlin was killed in a tragic farm accident in 1954.

Lorraine then began working in the Faulk County Court House in the Register of Deeds office for several years before going to work at the Faulk County Land & Title Company. She eventually took over operation and ownership of that business until her retirement.

Lorraine had a servant’s heart and looked for ways to help and give to others. She enjoyed visiting and assisting residents at the Faulkton Nursing Home and did some volunteering at the local library. She spent time at the cemetery grooming numerous graves of those who no longer had relatives in the area. She loved to bake and found great pleasure in sharing all with friends and family. She loved the Word of God and studied her Bible daily for its direction and wisdom within. Lorraine had a beautifully trained voice and for many years was frequently asked to sing at various functions in the area.

Grateful for her influence and guidance in their lives are her daughter, Debbie (Leigh) Meyer of Pollock, SD; grandchildren: Garrett (Melissa) Meyer of Winthrop, MN, Seth Meyer of Le Seuer, MN, Jim (Sherrell) Almond of Minot, ND, Richard (Anna) Almond of Clayton, NC, and Joey Almond of Ankeny, IA; six great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Johnnie Soule; niece, Julie Ann Conley; and a nephew, Sidney Soule.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter and son-in-law, Robynn and Burt Almond; brother, Warren Soule; and 3 half-brothers and one half-sister.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Lorraine’s arrangements.
