Patricia Lou (Herman) Nipp was born October 19, 1932 in Java, SD to Reinhold “Reinie” and Laura (Nelson) Herman. Patty attended school in Bowdle, graduating in 1950. She continued her education at Northern State College earning a teaching certificate in 1952.

Patty’s first job was teaching at a rural school near Bowdle. She then began teaching at the Loyalton School and soon met Harlan Nipp. They were married on December 13, 1953 at her parents’ home in Bowdle. Harlan served in the US Army and was stationed in Munich, Germany. Patty joined Harlan in June of 1954 in Germany where they lived until May of 1955.

After returning home, they lived on and operated the Nipp family farm near Loyalton, until moving to Wecota in 1962 where Patty began teaching school at the Blumengard Hutterite Colony.

The family moved to Cresbard in 1982. Patty went back to college and earned her Bachelor’s degree in education in 1984 and began teaching for the Cresbard School District, retiring in 1997. Patty spent the next several years serving as a Foster Grandparent in the Cresbard and Faulkton schools.
Patty was proud to be a teacher and cherished the rewarding experiences and wonderful memories of her students and fellow teaching staff. Patty’s mother, son, and granddaughter were also teachers. All four generations graduated from NSU in Aberdeen.

Patty was compassionate and giving, always putting others first. She loved traveling to attend as many grandkids’ activities as possible. She especially lit up when all the great-grandkids would come to visit.

Patty was a member of Immanuel and Concordia Lutheran Churches where she taught Sunday School and midweek confirmation classes. She was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries and enjoyed being part of the Cresbard Red Hatters.

Patty’s life will be treasured by her three children: Marilora Nipp, Cresbard; Monte (Dawn) Nipp, Langford; and Marlin (Carla) Nipp, Pierre; four grandchildren: Nathan (Krystle) Nipp, Aberdeen; Abby (Gavin) Krueger, Groton; Zachary Nipp, Sioux Falls; and Skyler Nipp, Pierre; three great-grandchildren: Courtney, Trevor, and Brooklyn Nipp, Aberdeen; and brother-in-law, Ted (Kathy) Nipp, Aberdeen.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Although I never knew Mrs. Nipp, I have had the pleasure of working with her son, Monte, her daughter-in-law, Dawn, and granddaughter, Abby. If they are any indicator of the woman Patricia was, she must have been wonderful. To the entire Nipp family, please know of our prayers during this difficult time. "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth… He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, the old order has passed away.” Revelation 21:1,4 Eternal Rest grant unto Patricia, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
