Mary Pierce

A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Luze Funeral Home in Highmore with Pastor Jenene Earl officiating. Burial will be in the Redfield Cemetery, at a later date. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the funeral home.
Mary Eleanor was born November 17, 1921 at home near Ree Heights to Robert and Ines (Hale) Vogelgesang. She attended country school in Lincoln Township in north Hyde County.
She married Raymond Miller in Rapid City and they made their home in various cities in South Dakota. Following Ray’s death, she moved to Reno, Nevada and continued to work as a waitress. Mary later met and married Bud Pierce and together they made their home in Reno. Throughout Mary’s life, she worked as a waitress in many different restaurants in South Dakota and Nevada.
Most recently, Mary lived in an apartment in Pierre, South Dakota where she enjoyed life. Mary will be remembered as a person with a profound love for life and a burning desire to care for herself. She enjoyed making and selling crafts, doing fancy needlework, playing bingo and watching her television programs.
Her memory will be cherished by her son, David (Judy) Vogelgesang of Iowa City, IA; sisters: Ines Webster of Wylie, TX, Celia Rohrer of Jackson, WY, Betty (Rolland) Kleinschmidt of Harrold, SD, and Hazel (Virgil) Brouer of Andover, MN; brother, Robert Henry Vogelgesang of Oklahoma, OK and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Raymond and Bud; sisters: Leota Wolf and Joyce King; sister-in-law, Eva Vogelgesang; and brother-in-laws: Walter Wolf and George Rohrer.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Mary's arrangements.
