Mary McCartney, 91, of St. Lawrence, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
Funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 28, 2018 at the United Church of Canistota in Canistota, SD with Pastor John Price officiating. Visitation was held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, December 28, at Reck Funeral Home, Miller followed by a 3:30 p.m. committal service at the Reck Funeral Home. Private burial followed at G.A.R. Cemetery, Miller.
Mary Irene was born May 4, 1927 to Fred and Ada (Hanson) Abbott. She was the oldest of 11 children. She spent her early years in Arkansas and moved to South Dakota when she was 13. She married Roy McCartney on September 15, 1946 and together they had three children: Gene, Doreen, and Kim. After Roy passed away in 1981, she worked as a home health aide for several years. She married Ward Goodall for 10 years. As her eyesight diminished, she rented out the farm and moved to the manor in Miller until she moved in with Doreen in 2016.
She is survived by her three children: Gene, Doreen, and Kim (Cathy); three sisters: Edna Barnett, Donna Henson, and Deanna Harrison; two brothers: Earl and Robin Abbott; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Mary's arrangements.

Mary seemed such a nice lady, who I wish I could have known better. I enjoyed the chat that we had together in Astoria in 2014. My deepest condolences to all the family.
