During the summer months of his high school years, Darold helped his father, Edward Ketterling build township roads throughout the county. During his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, camping, and snowmobiling and served as a volunteer fireman for the Faulkton Fire Department. He lived his life in Faulkton, with the exception of his military service in the Army during the Korean War. He also lived for two years in the mid-fifties in Louisville, KY. He spent the winter months over a 20 year period in Sun City, AZ with his wife Betty.

He married Betty Weyand, also a lifetime resident of Faulkton, on August 5, 1953.

Arlene and I offer our deepest sympathy to Darold’s family. A special note of sympathy to Wyman, high school clasmate. Darold was always a special guy as we grew up in Faulkton–“the strongest man I ever knew”. I think about the hunting, fishing, trapping and ice skating together with my brother Sam, Bill Moore, Jerry Herrmann, Floyd Ingalls, fond memories that will live on in my heart.
