Eldore was born December 8, 1918 to Andrew and Amelia (Triebwasser) Holzwarth in rural Gettysburg. He attended Fayette School through the eighth grade. He attended Gettysburg High School but took a year off to help his brothers, Ted and Edgar, drive cattle to the Sand Hills of Nebraska where there was available feed. He returned to Gettysburg and graduated in 1939.
After graduation, Eldore moved to San Diego and worked in the shipyards building airplanes for the war effort from 1940-1943. He served in the US Army from 1943-1946.
On March 9, 1950 Eldore married Helen Rausch in Gettysburg. Their first home was a two room house seven miles northeast of LaPlant where they ranched until May of 1958. They moved into Andrew Holzwarth’s house until they bought the Owen Kearns farm on the Old Gulch Road in December 1962 where they raised their three sons. The Owen Kearns house was the former Forest City Drug Store. Eldore moved into the Villa in Gettysburg the fall of 2008.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion and sold Pioneer Seed for thirteen years. He enjoyed his grandchildren, playing cards, Minnesota Twins and most other sports.
He is survived by three sons: Larry (Nancy) Holzwarth and Melvin (Lana) Holzwarth both of Gettysburg and Don (Deslie) Holswarth of Meridian, Idaho; his eight grandchildren: Sheila (Tom) Schaefer, April (Raf) Velazquez, Jamie Holzwarth, Valeree (Nick) DeVine, Shane Holzwarth, Greg (Sarah) Holzwarth, Philip (Lisa) Holzwarth and Richard Holzwarth; and one great grandson, Ian.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; three brothers: Art, Ted and Edgar; and two sisters: Emma and Alma.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Eldore's arrangements.

Dear Melvin & Lana & families,
Sorry to hear of Eldore’s passing. It will be different not seeing him “putts” around the river checking the cattle and the empty space at the football games. May God Bless you and your families always. Steve & Nadine
