William J. Dufek, 56, of Sioux City, IA and a member of Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Unity Point Health, Sioux City, IA.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. MDT, Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the UCC Church, Cherry Creek, with Richard Charging Eagle presiding. Burial will follow in the UCC Cemetery, Cherry Creek. A wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2019 with a procession from the two-mile east of town at 5:00 p.m.

William James Dufek was born June 3, 1962 in Glendale, CA to Joe and Virginia (Brown Thunder) Dufek. His family moved to Oregon where he attended North Eugene High School from 1977-1980. William went on to further his education at Judson Baptist College (1980-1981) and Lane Community College (1981-1983). He graduated with an associate’s degree in electronics.

On March 10, 1984 William was married to Lisa McCranie, they had two sons: Corwin on September 10, 1984 and Jordan on July 15, 1986. Following their divorce, William traveled around until landing in Sioux City, IA where he made his home for the last 10 years. While living in Sioux City, William worked various jobs in the area.

He enjoyed the time he was able to travel and working on art.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons: Corwin or Sioux City, IA and Jordan Dufek of Chicago, IL; brothers: Clifton Brown Thunder of Eagle Butte, Joe, Rockne, and Randy Dufek all of Portland, OR; aunt: Elberta Brown Thunder of Eagle Butte; and cousins: Milo DeSheuquetto of New Mexico, Suzanne Francis of Louisiana, and Heather and Anita Netzer of Eagle Butte.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Raymond and Mae (One Skunk) Brown Thunder; his parents: Joe & Virginia (Brown Thunder) Dufek; and first cousin, Jennifer Netzer.

  1. Will , it was such a pleasure working with you. You were more than a coworker, you became a very great friend to me. I’ll miss talking sports with you all the time , coming over to watch baseball or basketball or just hangout in general. So just for you , GO DODGERS!
