Michael Gabriel
October 19, 1979 ~ February 19, 2020
Michael James Gabriel, 40, of Miller, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at his home in Miller.
Funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church, Miller with Pastor Teresa Whetsel officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Huron, at a later date. Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral service.
Michael James was born to Gary and Irene (Kuper) Gabriel on October 19, 1979, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In Michael’s early years, the family moved around a number of times from Sioux Falls, SD to East Layton, UT to Lead, SD to Ree Heights, SD, Fort Pierre, SD, and then to Huron, SD. All the moving around molded Mike into the tough as nails man we knew and loved. His energy and intensity will be missed.
Music was deep within Michael’s soul. He followed his father’s footsteps by playing guitar, bass, and drums. He was also known as a hard-working individual. After high school, Michael managed Rocket Lube in Huron. He then moved to Rapid City and there he worked in construction and refined his skills with concrete. Later he moved to Miller, working for different construction companies, mostly doing concrete. After receiving his CDL, he worked in Huron for a time which took him to North Dakota. His most recent employer was Dahme Construction in Miller.
Michael had a passion for helping people and would lend his labor, construction skills, care, or counseling whenever he could.
His memory will be cherished by his mother, Irene of Miller; brothers: Justin Gabriel and Mark (Gina) Gabriel; nieces: Sierra Halbur and Keara Gabriel; nephew, Cian Halbur; and a host of friends and family
Preceding him in death was his brother, Darren Gabriel; father, Gary Gabriel; maternal grandfather, George Kuper; maternal grandmother, Ella Palmer; and paternal grandmother, Imogene Marsh.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Michael’s arrangements.
