Shawn C. Brown, 35, of LaPlant entered the spirit world Friday, October 9, 2020 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls.
In compliance with the CRST Tribal Directives, Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. MST, Saturday, October 17, 2020 at the LaPlant Community Building, with burial at the LaPlant Congregational Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a procession at 11:00 a.m. from the hill east of town.
Shawn Charles “Brownie” Brown was born September 12, 1985 in Eagle Butte, SD to Joni Bowker and Benjamin Brown. He attended school at Swiftbird Day School and Tiospaye Topa, graduating in 2005. While living in LaPlant, Shawn enjoyed his time playing basketball with his family and friends.
In 2012, he and Dawnette, whom he has been with for over 14 years, moved to Sioux Falls. They welcomed their twins Dante and Deja in 2014.
Shawn has worked various jobs through his life and will be remembered as an exceptionally talented artist. He enjoyed playing basketball, listening to alternative, rock and rap music, and lending a helping hand to those in need, especially to his mother and grandmother.
He will be remembered as kind, loving, caring, and beautiful individual who always had a smile on his face no matter the circumstances.
Shawn is survived by his parents: Joni Bowker and Benjamin Brown; stepfather, Lyle Fire Cloud Sr.; fiancé’, Dawnette White Eagle; twin children: Dante and Deja Brown; sisters: Cody Hill, Kristi Fire Cloud, Krystal Fire Cloud, and Jordan Brown; brothers: Lyle Fire Cloud Jr., Dawson Fire Cloud, and Dustin Brown; step-children: Trayvon and Tristian White Eagle and Samon’tae James; nephews: Jordan, Demetri and Jesse Hill, A’shaye Martin, Jericho and Zane Fire Cloud; nieces: Ada Martin, Araina, Amena, and Ameria White Owl; and grandmother, Dorothy Bowker.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Jonas Bowker Jr., and Ellsworth and Lillian Brown; cousins: Eric Scott, Royce Bowker, Roxanne Rosas, and Isiah Iron Wing; uncle, Stanford Fire Cloud, Sr. and aunt, Tamara Bowker.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Shawn’s arrangements.
