Eileen M. Gabler, 89, of Cresbard, passed away Monday, November 2, 2020 at the Eastern Star Home, Redfield.

Funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the United Methodist Church, Cresbard. Burial followed in the Cresbard Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 6, 2020 at the church. 

Eileen M. Steger was born in Aberdeen, SD on March 10, 1931 to Henry and Dorothy Pearl (Larson) Steger. She received her education in Aberdeen.

On October 11, 1947 Eileen was united in marriage to James H. Gabler. They made their home on the family farm SW of Cresbard until retiring in 1987. They moved into Cresbard where she remained until moving to Aberdeen in 2009 and then entered the Eastern Star Home in Redfield in 2015.

Eileen enjoyed her social time, you could find her having coffee with friends, playing bridge, or attending events with the Red Hatter’s group. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cresbard where she participated with U.M.W. and circle. She was also actively involved in the Order of Eastern Star, having served in many leadership rolls both on the local and state levels.

Most of all, Eileen enjoyed her family. She was one of their biggest fans, traveling to watch as many events she could of her children and grandchildren throughout the years.

Those left to cherish her life are her children: Greg (Judy) Gabler, Longmont, CO, Bradley Gabler, Aberdeen, R. Renee Bartholomew, Longmont, CO, and Brent (Diane) Gabler, Cresbard; her grandchildren: Aaron (Julie) Gabler, James (Lindsi) Gabler, Joshua (Jenna) Gabler, Katie Gabler, Brad Gabler, Preston (Debbie) Bowar, Alexis (Aaron) Clarksean, Chandler (Katie) Bartholomew, Ashley (Matt) Toennies, Danielle (Jeremy) Keith, and Roxanne (Matt) Bossley; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyliss Childs; brother, Gordon Steger; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James in 1998; sister, Fern Blake, and brother, Courtney Steger.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Eileen’s arrangements.

The Gabler name was a part of our lives growing up and thru the years. Eileen is finally at peace and in a much better place than any of us can only imagine. God bless her soul.
