LaVerne Spangler, 87 of Faulkton passed away Monday, November 23, 2020 at Faulkton Senior Living.
A private memorial service will be held Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Seneca. A livestream of this service will be available of the funeral home website.
Leta LaVerne Morse was born January 22, 1933 to Earl and Leta M. (Awde) Morse in Faulkton, SD. She received her education from Seneca Country School and Faulkton High School,
On April 24, 1954, LaVerne was united in marriage to Arlie Spangler at the United Methodist Church in Seneca. They made their home in Seneca until Arlie left to serve in the United States Army. The family resided in Ft. Riley, Kansas where Arlie was stationed. Following his service, they moved back to Faulkton.
LaVerne kept busy raising her family. In 1969, she went to work as a dietician for the Faulkton Hospital, where she worked until her retirement in 1994. When she wasn’t working, one could find her involved in the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Rebekah’s Lodge or the United Church of Faulkton. LaVerne will be remembered for her many hours of dedication making and distributing poppies each Memorial Day.
Whenever she had time, she enjoyed doing crafts with her hands, painting landscapes, crocheting, or having card nights with the girls.
LaVerne’s life will be cherished by her children: Curt (Sharon) Spangler, Miller, Albert Spangler, Pierre, Jon (Jennifer) Spangler, Atlanta, GA and Arleta Spangler, Faulkton; her grandchildren: Michelle (Todd) Biedenfield and children of New Brighton, MN, Lindsay (Josh) Boomsma and daughters of Miller, Amber Bast (Landon Gabe) and children of Miller, Dusty Spangler of Dell Ray Beach, FL, Derek Spangler of Denver, CO, Skylar Spangler, Atlanta, GA, Allen “AJ” Spangler, Phoenix, AZ and Lars Spangler of Faulkton; brother, Jonathan (Taxi) Morse, Selbyville, CT; and sister-in-law, Judy Morse, Kansas City, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arlie; and her brothers and sisters: Vera, Donald, Evered, Dale, Robert, Ethel, Camden and one sister in infancy, Marjorie.
