Matthew Red Fox

Matthew Red Fox, 24, of Eagle Butte, entered the spirit world, Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at I.H.S. Hospital, Eagle Butte.

In compliance with the CRST Tribal Directives, a private family service will be held Saturday, December 19, 2020, at the Blue Gym, Cherry Creek, with a procession at 9:00 a.m. from the hill east of town. Burial will take place at the LDS Cemetery, Cherry Creek.

Matthew Red Fox was born February 6, 1996 to the Late Eldred Jay Red Fox and Dody M. Blackmoon on a winter day with a blanket of snow and a full moon. Matthew was a fighter, even before he was born. His mother remembers his hard kicks when she was carrying him in the womb. Matt was the biggest of all her seven children. His length at birth was 23 1/2” and almost 10 pounds. He was a feisty little guy and followed his mom all over.

Matthew was such a respectable son who thought of everyone, he would help when he was needed. He had a dog named Stacey, a male dog, who he loved. They went everywhere together. He was so sad when his dog disappeared. Matthew will be missed by many friends and family. He loved all of his nieces, nephews, cousins, aunties, uncles and his grandparents.

Matthew is survived by his mother, Dody Blackmoon, Eagle Butte; brothers: Kyle J. Red Water (Mariah Schnabel), Pierre, Wilson R. Red Water (Brandi Phillips), Eagle Butte, and Dillon Waggoner, Shelley, ID; sisters: Tiffany Red Water, Bismarck, ND, Jay Lynn Red Fox, Eagle Butte, and Miranda Waggoner, Shelley, ID; grandma’s: Alvina Iron Hawk and Beatrice Red Fox; grandpa’s: Gabe Blackmoon and  Late Elmer Traversie; uncles: Loren Anderson, Mark Red Fox, and Murray Red Fox; aunties: Rilla Noisy Hawk, Patricia Red Fox, Clarice Lara, Mary Phillips, Launa Blackmoon, Jody Blackmoon, and Erica Blackmoon; cousins: Railin, Shayla, and Marita Noisy Hawk,  Peyton, Chauncey, Ashley, Bennett, Amber, and Severt Red Elk, Chaske Red Fox, Cody, Shanelle Red Fox,  Taylia and Marlee, Rowdy Red Fox,  Hunter Vicenti, Lori and Jeremy Blackmoon, Trini Vicenti, Trent and Royce Jr. Noisy Hawk,  Star Collins, Stoney, Terri Collins, Dawnelle Blackmoon, Andrew, Amanda, Joey Jr., and Summer LeBeau.

He was preceded in death by his father Eldred Jay Red Fox; and aunties: Donna Blackmoon and Traci Blackmoon.
