The Garrity family initially lived on a rented farm a short distance north of Blunt, South Dakota before moving to the Garrity homestead farm in Bretton Township, southwest of Harrold, Hughes County, South Dakota. Mary Ann graduated from Harrold High School in 1950 as the class valedictorian. During childhood and her school years, she was active in high school basketball, high school band, declam and 4-H. Mary Ann attended one year of college at South Dakota State College, now South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota.

Mary Ann married Franklin Delano Fransen of Gettysburg, South Dakota on October 20, 1951 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Harrold. These activities included the Catholic Church Alter Society, PTA, children’s school activities, Redfield Jaycettes, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, CCD classes, their children’s sports activities, and years of square dancing and clogging. Among her greatest of joys was spending time with her grandchildren. They also enjoyed family camping activities with their children and grandchildren.

Mary Ann was employed at American State Bank from 1987 to 1997 and at All Around Graphics from 1997 to 2015. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Kelly Grace Podhradsky says:

So sorry for you're loss she was a lovely lady

  2. My mother, planning and fixing us something to eat in 1963. Mom, dad and 7 kids sitting at the table. Kids ages 2-10.
Look into the bowl of potatoes in the middle of the table. There are 9 potatoes in the bowl. Not whole potatoes that we eat today, 9 pieces of potatoes.
Try splitting a can of peas nine ways and tell me how large each serving is.
Then there were the 9 slices of bread on the table.
And almost always there was desert afterward. That was frequently a can of peaches or such. Try splitting a can of peaches 8 ways and let me know. Why not 9 ways, because there was not enough. When asked why she didn't take any for herself, she would reply "I'm not hungry, I've had enough," always. She wasn't hungry because she was surrounded by 7 kids who were hungry, and she knew it. I didn't know that until years later.

  3. Mary & family, so hard to lose our Moms but she lived a long life & is now at peace with no more suffering.  Hold your many memories close, she will walk daily with you.  Many thoughts & prayers going your way.  💞

  4. Darrell Richard Fransen says:

Aunt Mary Ann was always a fun person to be around. I didn't get to see her very often, but it was a joy when we did. You will be missed. Rest in peace Aunt Mary Ann.

    Frank and Families ~
I was very saddened to learn of your loss.
I have SO MANY memories of coming to your house, playing a game of Twister, and then her homemade cookies and a glass of milk when we were done playing.
Mary Ann always had a warm spot in my heart. We always visited when we ran into each other, esp catching up on everyone.
Keeping ALL of you in our thoughts and Lifting you up in Prayer.
May God wrap his Blessings around you and bring your Hearts Peace.
