Bardena Brandt, 92, of Agar, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at Avera Oahe Manor, Gettysburg.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 8, 2021 at the United Methodist Church, Agar with Pastor David Otten presiding. Burial will follow in the Onida Cemetery. Visitation will be one-hour prior to the service. If you are attending the service, feel free to dress casually.

Bardena Vader was born October 9, 1928 to Raymond and Hazel (Shear) Vader. She attended rural country school, graduating from Agar High School. She went on to receive her teaching certificate of Aberdeen Normal Teachers College.

On September 10, 1948 in California, she married Vernon Brandt. They made their home in Agar where she spent the remainder of her life raising her family. She taught at rural country school and at Onida Elementary for over 30 years. In her spare time Bardena enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports, sewing, gardening, and cooking for family and friends. She was a kind and generous person, and she opened her home to anyone that needed a place to stay.

Bardena’s life will be cherished by her children: Janice Badger of Aberdeen and Paul Brandt of Agar; daughter-in-law: Debra Brandt of Bozeman, MT; grandchildren: Shawn (Dawn) Badger of Sioux Falls, Dannielle (Bryan) Walz of Aberdeen, Keelie (Pete) Aasand of Fargo, ND, Holly (Nathan) Goodman of Bozeman, MT, Laynee Brandt of Onida, Michelle Brandt (Sean Jares) of Bozeman, MT and Kassie (Tyce) Meyer of Agar; nine great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Tamie Brandt of Onida; and one brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Virginia and Bob Funkhauser of Tulsa, OK.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon (2007); two children: Daniel Brandt and an infant son; and four siblings: Cora Belle Blaine, Bob Vader, Dorothea Rivenes, and Dave Vader.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Bardena’s arrangements.

  1. My sympathy to the family of Bardena Brandt. She was my teacher when I was in Onida Elementary and her patience and kind instruction was always a blessing to me. We had many nice chats and I will forever remember her. May God Bless and keep you all in his care.

  2. Wanted to send my condolences since I was a member of the Agar church where Bardena was a member also. Had planned to go to the funeral but there is a slight chance of freezing rain. I am sorry for your loss.

  3. To the Brandt family….we are thinking of you at this time or sorrow. I will always remember "Mrs Brandt" as absolutely one of my best ever teachers. She taught at Cass School and made a positive impact on every one of us! We are so sorry to learn that Dan recently passed as well….our hearts and prayers are with you.   4. My thoughts and prayers are with Janice and Paul and the rest of the family. Mrs. Brandt was my teacher for 2.5 years at Cass School and greatly influenced my appreciation for education and high achievement. She will be missed by so many who she impacted over a long and lovely life.
