Winfred Middletent, 63, of Fort Thompson, passed away Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Sandford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Diamond Willow Church, Fort Thompson, Rod Vaughn officiating.  Burial will follow at All Saint’s Cemetery, Fort Thompson.   

Winfred T. Middletent “Sobie” was born on July 19, 1957 in Chamberlain, SD.  He was the youngest son of Ernest and Adeline (Red Day) Middletent.  Sobie graduated from Crow Creek High School class of 1976.  He than attended Mitchell Vo-Tech and earned his vocational degree.  He had various jobs throughout his life until he was unable to work.

Sobie enjoyed life in Fort Thompson with his family and friends.  He liked walking around and watching T.V.  Sobie was remembered by a friend by hitting a basket half court backwards!  Sobie also attended church regularly at Diamond Willow Church.

Grateful to have shared his life with Sobie are his brothers: Ernest Gary Middletent of Rapid City, and David Middletent of Fort Thompson; nephews: Steven (Diz) Middletent of Fort Thomson, Christopher Middletent of Rapid City, Treon (Naomi) Middletent of Rapid City, John Middletent of Bismark, ND, Kyle McDade, Minneapolis, MN, Thomas Middletent of Fort Thompson, Victor Middletent of Fort Thompson, Lucas Middletent of Fort Thompson, Bruce Azure of Stephan, Darrel (Cocoa) of Fort Thompson, Daniel (Mick) Azure of Fort Thompson,  Jamie Norton of Fort Thompson, Allen Middletent of Fort Thompson, Weldon Middletent of Sioux Falls, and Jason Weaver, KS; nieces: Carrie Middletent of Rapid City, Stephanie Eare-Savoy (Steven) of Rapid City, DeAnna Eare of Rapid City, Georgett Dillon of Rapid City, Ronnette Norton of Rapid City, Merri “Bear” Martel-Brown Otter of Mobridge, Maddie Encalada (Cetan) of Sioux Falls, Marquita Caldwell-Witt of TN and Aris Crazy Bull of TN; and many other relatives and friends.

Greeting Sobie in the spirit world was his mother, Adeline; father, Ernest; brothers: Stanford, Fredrick, Donald, Victor, and Treon Middletent; sisters: Ernestine, Victorine, Irene, Caroline, and Ruth; grandparents: Treon Red Day and Emma Slow and John Middletent and Kate Little Dog.

Wopila Tanka to all of the friends who have helped Sobie throughout his life.  Sobie will be greatly missed.  He is at rest now walking the streets of Heaven.
