Dale Nauman, 74, of Gettysburg, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021 doing the thing he loved most…ranching.

A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 19, 2021 at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg, with Pastor Jeff Adel presiding. All are welcome to attend but for those that are unable to attend, a live broadcast of the service will be available.

Dale Graves Nauman was born on September 23, 1946 at Newland Maternity Home in Gettysburg, SD to Stan and Mabel (Graves) Nauman.  As a young boy, he helped on the family farm and at the age of 19 enlisted in the South Dakota Army National Guard where he served six years with the HB147th artillery group.

On January 18, 1969, Dale married his sweetheart, Sandra (Smith) Nauman, and to this union three children were born.  They moved into their first home southeast of Gettysburg on the E.T. and Nettie Nauman homestead.

Dale had many hobbies including woodworking, playing guitar, bowling, flying, hunting, and ice fishing with his boys and granddaughter.  Dale was also involved in many organizations including South Dakota Auctioneer Association, North American Corriente Association, County Commissioner, Legion Post 135, State and Local Fair Boards, Roping Club, Ducks Unlimited, and also volunteered at the Gettysburg Fire Department and EMT.

Dale’s greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.  Some of their fondest memories were of him playing guitar, playing cribbage, teaching them how to rope and ride a horse, taking them to countless AAU wrestling tournaments, and his storytelling. Dale also loved to write poetry.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Gettysburg; daughter, Cami (Jerrid) Goebel of Sturgis, SD; sons, Travis (Erin) Nauman, of Ft. Mill, SC and Cody Nauman of Gettysburg; six grandchildren: Ciarra (Gordon Philipp) Martin, Kenna Goebel, Zoey Goebel, Easton Nauman, Ansley Nauman, and Waylon Nauman; one great-grandchild, Kru Philipp; brother, David Nauman of Pierre; brother-in-law, Jerry Bieber of Gettysburg; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his sidekick Meg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and his beloved Sage.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Dale’s arrangements.

A Celebration of Life was held on February 19, 2021 at 2:00 PM at United Methodist Church, 101 E Garfield Ave in Gettysburg, SD 57442

  5. My condolences to the Nauman family. I met Dale in 1991 through his daughter Cami. Cami and I have a beautiful daughter together. Dale was nothing but open arms when I first met him. He even gave me one of his Cowboy Hats that I still have after almost 29 years. We shook hands only 1 time. After that one "Man" hand shake, we would hug everytime we saw each other as a greeting. Dale was a Man of his word and didn't look at color. I will always respect Dale and truly miss this Man. Rest in Peace Dale. Until we see each other again.

  6. Sandy & Family, we were so shocked to hear of Dale's passing. Many good times and memories were had with Dale growing up working for Uncle Stan in Gettysburg that will be treasured for years to come. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I am so heartfelt sorry for you loss, Thoughts and prayers are with you all…. God Bless…

  15. Richard and Connie Smith Bowen says:

We were very saddened to hear of Dale’s passing. The Smith “girls” all married fine men. Dale was a true gentleman—kind, unassuming, steadfast, gentle with a twinkle in his eye. Sandy and I often played together as cousins as we were the same age. She has a lot of spirit and tenacity. Dale never tried to break that independent spark. They were a great match. We send our love and support to Sandy and their children and extended family—especially Jerry Bieber. Dick and Connie Bowen and family

  16. Sandy & Family…Our deepest condolences on your loss of Dale. He was a true gentleman & a friend to all. Our kids (as well as Tara & I) looked forward to seeing Dale every fall in Gillette, at the Corriente Show and visiting or texting with him through the year. The kids grew up with Dale & his stories every year. Dale truly was the quintessential western gentleman – always willing to help, full of wisdom & wit. A true friend. Know that our prayers are with you & we will continue to think of Dale often.
    Dave, Tara, Theron & Katy
