Robert Jaragoske, 85, of Gettysburg, died Sunday, November 19, 2006 at the Gettysburg Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2:00p.m. Friday, November 24 at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg with Pastor Mike Ward officiating. Burial will be in the Gettysburg Cemetery with military honors, directed by Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00p.m. with family present Thursday, November 23 at the funeral home.

Robert M. “Buster” was born December 31, 1920 in Redfield to Adam and Sylvia (Mullet) Jaragoske. As a young boy, they moved to the Sully County area where he attended grade school in the rural area and two years of High School in Onida. Following high school, he worked for various farmers. He later drove truck for Shorty Vetter and Lyle Tennant before enlisting in the Army in 1944 until 1946. While serving in WWII, he received the Army Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and the Victory Ribbon. After being discharged, he returned to driving truck for Lyle Tennant.

On April 12, 1947, he married Ethel Jager in Pierre. They moved to a farm where they lived for two years. They then moved to Agar to operate a gas station. After selling the station, he worked for Zuber Trucking. While living in Agar, he helped to organize the Agar Fire Department. In October 1950, he was recalled to active duty where he served in the Korean War until July 1951 when he was honorably discharged. While serving in Korea, he received the Occupation Medal Japan, Korean Service Ribbon, Bronze Campaign Star and the Purple Heart.

In 1959, he moved to Gettysburg when he resumed working for Tennant Trucking until he retired in 1996 due to ill health.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was a ten year cancer survivor. He enjoyed driving truck, dancing to country western music, coffee time with friends, watching his bird and squirrel feeders, and spending time with his family.

Robert is survived by his wife Ethel of 59 years; two sons: Richard (Cathy), Sioux Falls and Larry (Tammie), Aberdeen; three daughters: Nadine (Steve) Glaesman, Gettysburg, Kristi (Gary) Hoon, Sioux Falls, and Lori (Craig) Hunnel, Gettysburg; one sister: Bernice Zuber, Sauk Rapids, MN; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; and one brother-in-law.
