Hilda Wise, age 94, of Gettysburg, passed away, Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the Gettysburg Memorial Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday November 8, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gettysburg with Father Jerry Kopel officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the Luce Funeral Home in Gettysburg.

Hilda Rose Simon was born March 31, 1916 to Louie M. and Anna (Nehl) Simon at Hoven, SD. She grew up on the family homestead near Hoven, attending St. Anthony’s School and moving to Gettysburg in the 1930’s for employment.

Hilda married Raymond E. Wise of Gettysburg on June 25, 1941 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gettysburg. She was a great cook and worked at the Medicine Rock Café, Busy Bee Café and the Gettysburg Memorial Hospital after her daughters left home. They lived on their farm north of Gettysburg until retiring in 1992 at which time they moved into Gettysburg. In August 2008 Hilda entered the Oahe Manor where she resided until the time of her death.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society, the Hospital Auxiliary, Gettysburg Country Club and the Medicine Rock Senior Citizens Center. Hilda enjoyed gardening, working with her flowers, canning and baking those delicious pies she was famous for.

Her memory will be cherished by her two daughters: Bonita Reser of Wesley Chapel, FL and Judith Romilly of Portland, OR; one granddaughter: Christina (Dennis) Lyons of Wesley Chapel, FL; one great granddaughter: Calissa Lyons of Wesley Chapel, FL; one sister: Florence Beck of Aberdeen, SD and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; one daughter, Patricia Anne Snyder; one grandson: Craig Daniels; three brothers: Anthony, Robert and Raymond Simon and four sisters: Margaret Hilsendager, Elsie Able, Sister Miriam Simon, and Agnes Jax.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Hilda’s arrangements.

    Hilda was a lovely Christian lady with such a pretty smile. When we Altar Society ladies visited her, she always wanted us included in the prayers. She will be missed alot. Prayers for her family.

  4. I was a friend to Patti, Hilda’s daughter. Hilda was such a wonderful person, always friendly and smiling. I remember her during high school when I stayed at their house and always saw her when I was in Gettysburg to visit my Mother. She will dearly be missed by everyone she came in contact with.
