After a nearly four year courageous battle with cancer, Terri Henson, 61, of Miller, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society, Miller.

A celebration of life will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the United Methodist Church, Miller with Pastor Teresa Whetsel, officiating. Military honors will follow the service at the church.  A visitation will be at 6:00 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2021 at Reck Funeral Home, Miller.  Masks are encouraged at all services.  Burial will be at Morningside Cemetery, Ree Heights at a later date.

For those unable to attend, the funeral service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website.

Terri Leigh Hammill was born May 7, 1959 to Bruce and Vivian (Schock) Hammill at Miller, SD. She grew up in Miller, where she attended grade school and high school, graduating in 1977. She worked various jobs around Miller. She worked in the janitorial department at the Miller Grade School as well as Alaries Dairy in Wessington.

Terri then enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1979. She worked at the Miller Manor and was the head of the Meals on Wheels program while employed there. She attended college at Huron College and was employed at various businesses in Huron while going to college. Terri worked at Ben Franklin, Duckwall and was the manager at Alco, all in Miller. She was a deputy auditor for Hand County, worked at the assisted living, the Good Samaritan Center, and the Ranch Café.

Terri married Ken Knippling in July of 1982 and later in 1992, she married Jim Henson. They were blessed with one son, Curtis.

Playing pinochle, fishing, and watching her brother and nephews race stock cars were Terri’s favorite past times. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed going to state bowling tournaments.

Terri is survived by her husband, Jim, Miller; son, Curtis, Miller; three sisters: Delores Hines, Sturgis, Betty Hammill, Miller, Sandi Hammill, Redfield; three brothers: Ron Hammill, St. Lawrence, Mike (Jeanine) Hammill, Miller, Tim Hammill, Miller; four nieces, two nephews, six great nephews, ten great nieces, aunts, uncles, a host of cousins, her mother-in-law, Katherine Henson, Miller, and sisters-in-law: Jan Dalton, Miller, Mavis (Gale) Auch, Miller, Carol (Duran) Swaney, St. Lawrence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, son, Joby, in 1979, father-in-law, Robert Henson, brother-in-law, Rex Hines and sister-in-law, Mary Darling.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Terri’s arrangements.

    I haven't seen Terri in many years but still saddened to lose another relative.

  13. I'm sorry for your families loss. I remember the times of being at the Miller Bowling Alley as a kid and watching her bowl with my folks. She was one heck of a bowler. Prayers to you all during this difficult time and days ahead. 🙏

  15. Jim and family and to the Hamill family, I am so sorry for your loss!  I have childhood memories of sitting in front of the Ree Heights store and listening to Teri’s stories. When we ran into each other from time to time it was always so nice to reconnect.
