Rosetta Schuler was born to Jacob and Helen (Barth) Schuler on February 28, 1941 in Hillsview, SD. Rosie grew up in Eagle Butte, attending the Eagle Butte Schools. She babysat for many children, and also helped her dad and brothers with farming.
Rosie was united in marriage to Raymond E. Neigel on January 27, 1958 at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte. To this union eight children were born. They farmed ten miles northeast of Eagle Butte for ten years. Then they moved into Eagle Butte, where her husband worked for Eagle Butte Plumbing & Heating. Rosie started babysitting and continued on for the next 18 years. Raymond passed away in 1978, and Rosie continued to babysit, while raising her own children. She also worked for three months at the Coast-to-Coast store.
Rosie was united in marriage to Kenneth Simon on April 20, 1988 in Timber Lake, SD. They made their home in Eagle Butte. Rosie began working at Ben Franklin, where she worked for a number of years. When Ben Franklin sold out, she worked at Thompson Drug Store. The drug store was bought by her daughter and son-in-law, Mick and Jenny Joens, and she continued to work for them. Rosie retired in 2005 due to having back surgery. She moved to Conde, SD in the fall of 2010 to live with her daughter, Dianne.
She enjoyed her days at home doing crosswords, embroidery, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was well known for her long johns, caramel rolls, her famous strawberry cake, along with her German potato salad.
Rosie’s life will be cherished by her three daughters: Jenny (Mick) Joens, Eagle Butte, Dianne Thomas, Conde, and Barb (Jeff) Jensen, Lantry; four sons: Dennis (Elaine) Neigel, Eagle Butte, Ronald (Evelyn) Neigel, Pierre, Jack (Melissa) Neigel, Eagle Butte, and Bobby Neigel, Eagle Butte; brother: Jake Schuler, Gettysburg; sister-in-law: Twila Schuler, Dupree; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; both husbands: Raymond E. in 1978 and Kenneth in 2003; son Raymond A. Neigel in 1994; son-in-law Jeff Thomas; four infant siblings; brothers: Norman (Florence) Schuler and Willie Schuler; and sisters-in-law: Irene (Lewis) Laycock, Shirley Schuler, and Caroline (Red) Cunningham.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Rosie’s arrangements.

I will miss you Rosie. Thank you for letting me be a part of your life.
I’m so sorry about Rosie. I’ve known her for as long Barb and I have been friends. I also worked with her at Ben Franklin. She was a feisty one. Rosie and her family will be in my prayers. She will be missed.
