Shawn Long Chase

Shawn Long Chase, 48, of Big Bend, journeyed to the spirit world on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at his home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at the Big Bend Community Building at Big Bend.  Burial will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery at Big Bend.  A wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 3, 2022, at the Big Bend Community Building.  A procession will form at 3:00 p.m., Monday at Luze Funeral Home to escort Shawn to Big Bend.

Shawn Jason Long Chase was born December 21, 1973, to Guy and Linda (Many Horses) St. John.  He attended school at Crow Creek and then later went to work as a ranch hand for Gregg and Hanson families.  He also helped with branding for area ranchers in the summer.

In Shawn’s free time, he loved being around horses and would go riding any chance he got.  He also enjoyed playing dice (ten thousand) with everyone, throwing horseshoes, watching softball in the summer, and going to Pow Wows on the reservation. 

Although Shawn never had children of his own, he was apart of Damien His Law and Sage Bowker’s life the last 8 years.  He always enjoyed joking and laughing with his family, especially his nieces and nephews.  He loved all of them.

He is survived by his sibling: JoAnne Godfrey of Big Bend, Brent Long Chase, Rebecca St. John, and Lenita St. John, all of Pierre, and Guy St. John of Big Bend; loving aunt, Teresa His Law; uncle, Fabian Howe; very special cousin, Duane St. John, friend, Vanessa Bowker; and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal and paternal grandparents; brother, Scott; two nieces: baby Ellen Long Chase and Tammy St. John; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Shawn's arrangements.
