Alyce Oligmueller, 91, of Miller, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.

Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Miller.  A private family funeral Mass will follow the visitation.  Burial will be at St. Ann's Cemetery, Miller.

Alyce (Schweigerdt) Oligmueller was born August 25, 1930 in Artas, South Dakota to Ernest and Bertha (Beck) Schweigerdt. She grew up in Eureka, South Dakota and graduated from Eureka High School in 1947. After high school, she attended Northern Teacher’s College to get her teaching certificate. She taught country school for two years in Artas and at Robertson country school north of St. Lawrence. She worked for the local dentist, Dr. Glennon, and as a telephone operator at Northwestern Bell Telephone Service before marrying Marvin Oligmueller on October 29, 1952. They were married for 57 ½ years.

After marrying, Alyce was a stay-at-home mom until 1963 when she and Marvin purchased the Midway Drive-In and Princess Theatres. They ran the Princess Theatre until 1991 and retired from the Midway Drive-In in 2003.

Marvin and Alyce enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Texas, and Las Vegas with friends and of course trips to Colorado, New York, Arizona, and Missouri to visit their children. Alyce enjoyed silly movies and sitcoms that would make her laugh and mirrored her sense of humor. She was a night owl and would stay up late to be sure the kids got home safe. She loved visiting with friends and family either in person or on the phone.

Alyce enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports through the years.  In her later years, connecting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren by phone calls, facetiming, cards, letters, and photos brought her the most joy.

Left to cherish Alyce’s memory are her children: Randy (Tammy) Oligmueller of Miller, Cindy (Jerry) Jacobsen of Sioux Falls, Kris (Ken) Stevens of Miller, Rick (Jan) Oligmueller of Plymouth, MN, and Chuck (Vicki) Oligmueller of Scottsdale, AZ; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren: John Coughlin, Betsey (Joe) Hopewell and Stella and Joey, Lexie (Mike) Frankman and Jacob and Charlotte, Brady (Kristen) Jacobsen, and Theo, Taylor Jacobsen, Brett (Roxanne) Stevens and Chad and Lauren, Mistelle (Chris) Christenson, and Carter and Kennedy, Aaron (Megan) Stevens, Jeremy (Licia) Oligmueller and Kellen, Jaden, and Evan, Katie (Marcus) Forsythe and Braylen and Kendall, Jennifer (Matt) Boelter and Connor, Brynn and Alayna, Andrew (Jessica) Oligmueller, and Mila and Noelle, Rachel Oligmueller, and Brooks, and Elise Oligmueller; four sisters-in-law: Rita Kusser, Marguerite Oligmueller, Lorraine Gilmore, and Kay Oligmueller; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Marvin; parents: Ernest and Bertha Schweigerdt; sisters: Joan Bertsch, Shirley Moore, and Bev Kisser; father and mother-in law, John and Bernadine Oligmueller; sister-in-law, Mary Hill; and brothers-in-law: Gerald Bertsch, Marvin Kisser, Bill Kusser, Leonard Oligmueller,  Gerald Hanks, Vern Hill, Bill Gilmore, and Roger Oligmueller; great granddaughter, Olivia Coughlin.

  5. I was very sad to hear of Alice’s passing. She and my mother were very close and we talk often. After my mother passed away in 2013 I would receive phone calls from Alice just to see how things were going. I know that she missed having those long conversations with mom. I am so sorry for your loss. Prayers for the whole family.

  6. My condolances to Alyces family. She was such a sweet lady.

  7. Kathy (Beck) Aschenbrenner says:

We are saddened by the news of Alyce's passing but rejoice that the sister's are together again in glory. This photo was taken in 2010 at Marvin's funeral when some of the first cousins got together with Alyce. She always had a ready smile and we always enjoyed visiting together. Prayers lifted as the family gathers to remember.

  8. So sorry for your loss my thoughts and prayers are with Alyces families at this time.

  10. I will miss you dearly Aunt Alyce. I will never forget your laugh, your smile, and your countless storytelling. Your door was always open to me and before you got sick I would have liked to visit you once more. See you in heaven. Ann Moore
