Sheron Archer, 78, of Gettysburg, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, from a month-long battle with COVID. She gave it a good fight, but God wanted her in heaven more.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 20, 2022, at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg, with Pastor Jeff Adel presiding. Burial will follow in the Gettysburg Cemetery. A prayer service will be 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the church in Gettysburg.

Sheron Rene’ Shaw was born July 7^th, 1943, in Pierre, SD to Lloyd and Alta (Thompson) Shaw. Sheron attended School at Gettysburg Elementary until she was 11, and then her dad took a job in Orange County, Downing, CA, as a salesman. Their time in California was short lived, about one year. Sheron’s mom missed family and longed for the small town of Gettysburg, so they moved home. In Gettysburg her dad was a businessman; he sold machinery and owned and operated The Ring Neck Cafe, The Sunset Café, and the Medicine Rock Café. She grew up working for her parents in their restaurant businesses. When she was a sophomore in high school, she started dating Stanley Archer and he became the love of her life. Stan was a senior when they started dating and headed off to college at SDSU in the fall of 1959 to play football. Stan soon realized college was not for him; he came home after his first year to farm with his mom. He soon realized farming and ranching were his life’s passion.

On July 11, 1960, Sheron and Stan were united in marriage at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gettysburg, SD. They made their home in northeast Sully Co. on the family farm where they raised their five daughters. The girls all attended school in Agar, with Stana, Bonnie, and Robbin all graduating from Agar High School. She was involved in the girls’ sports and school activities. She was an active member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Agar; where she was a catechism teacher and a member of the Altar Society until the church closed down in the early 1970’s. She was a member of the Agar American Legion Auxiliary and helped with the Jr. Auxiliary program when the girls were younger. The girls then went to Gettysburg for catechism and the family joined the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gettysburg. She was an active member of the Altar Society in Gettysburg also.

In 1985 the Agar school closed, and they rented a house in Gettysburg where they lived during the week so Jeri and Joie could go to school in Gettysburg. Both Jeri and Joie graduated from Gettysburg High School.

When Jeri and Joie were in school, she decided to pursue a career in nursing. She attended the Pierre School of Practical Nursing and graduated as a LPN, on August 13, 1982. She worked at Mary House in Pierre, Dr. Ramos’ Office and the Oahe Manor in Gettysburg. Sheron had a passion for working with the elderly, and she worked until her health would not allow her to continue.

Sheron never liked the country life. Stan passed away in April of 1995 and Sheron moved her house from the farm to Gettysburg where she lived until her death.

She married Jim Jost, on December 30, 2005, in Apache’ Junction, AZ. After she and Jim were married, they joined the United Methodist Church in Gettysburg where she was a member up until her death. She and Jim traveled the country and enjoyed the outdoors. They especially liked fishing the Alaska waters. Jim passed away in January 2008 from a fishing accident.

Sheron loved her family. She loved to dance in her younger years (Stan had two left feet and was not much of a dancer) and she could jitterbug with the best of them; this was before she had back/foot problems. She was an avid reader and shopper, she enjoyed cake/cookie decorating and her time on Facebook communicating with family and friends. Her health issues were many, but it did not keep her down. In her later years she loved to travel all over the United States with Joie, Selwyn, and family. She loved to master games on her computer and watch Hallmark movies nonstop from July thru December. She loved to play computer games and mastered her computer well. She had a love for the Christmas holidays and enjoyed Christmas decorating. She had beautiful Christmas trees and loved her huge Christmas village, although her health issues kept her from putting it up the past few years. It left her family with great memories!

Grateful for sharing her life are her children: Stana Blackwell of White River and children Jace and Whitney, Jade and Misty and Jaelyn (special friend Brayden); Bonnie and Craig Bleeker of Sioux Falls and children Hope and Keith; Robin and Kevin Paxton of Onida and children Desiray and Derek, Dalaney, Cody and Erica and Callan; Jeri Wieczorek (special friend Wade Falor) of Ft. Pierre and children Chad (special friend Rachel), Kenna, Wayde, Reid; and JoLynda (Joie) and Selwyn “Miles” Jones of Gettysburg and children Sean, TJ (Megan) Heather, Will, Shayla, Dejanna, Jaeden  Kashera, and Jakobe; Jeff and Trisha Jost of Gettysburg and children Denver (special friend Abrea), Piper (special friend Noah); and great grandchildren: McKenzie and Ellie Nelson; Tayveon, Jackson and Houston (Chubs) Paxton, Mason and Brynlee Paxton; Liam Wieczorek;  Maleena and London Jones; Ezra Spencer; LaNia Jones;  Oaxley and Hannah Jost;  brother, John and Lisa Shaw of Creston Iowa; sister, Vicki and Shorty Tassler of Pierre;  brother-in-law, Duane Puffer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Stan Archer and Jim Jost; parents, Alta and Lloyd Shaw; grandparents; mother-in-law, Helen Archer; sister, Lila Puffer; granddaughter, Crystal Paxton; grandson, Wayde Archer Wieczorek, and an angel great grandbaby Wieczorek.
