Roy E. Thorne, 79, of Hoven, passed away Friday, January 14, 2022, peacefully at home with his wife by his side.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Roy Earl Thorne was born August 30, 1942, in Duluth, MN to Melvin and Mary Jane (Spencer) Thorne, the third of six children. He and his family moved to Gettysburg where he attended grade school before moving to Beresford, SD where he finished his high school education.
Upon graduation, Roy joined the United State Air Force and served from November 24, 1960 until November 24, 1964. He was honorable discharge at the time. Roy spent the next 32 years employed with Caterpillar Tractor Co. After retirement, Roy moved back to South Dakota and resided in Hoven where he chose to spend the remainder of his life.
Roy is survived by his wife, Faith (Canna) Thorne; sons: Troy Thorne of Illinois and Luke Thorne of Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren; siblings: Jeanie Wieland of Arizona, Tim Thorne of Brookings, SD, Tracy Thorne of Huron, SD and Julie Larson of Brookings, SD and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Joe Thorne.
Roy’s final wish was that in lieu of flowers, any memorials be made to the American Heart Association,
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Roy’s arrangements.

Roy will be remembered by good memories starting in the 1st grade Gettysburg. May he rest in peace.
We are saddened by the loss of Roy. We got to know Roy when he moved to Hoven. We will miss him also. Our condolences to his family.
