Jerold “Jerry” Kegler, 72, of Faulkton, passed away Wednesday, March 09, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2022, at the United Church of Faulkton. Burial will take a place at a later date in the Faulkton Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2022, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family would direct memorials to any Faulk County organization to be made in Jerry’s honor.

Jerry was born on September 20th, 1949, in Aberdeen, SD to Lloyd and Sallie (Wilhelm) Kegler.  He attended Athol grade school until 1961, upon moving to Faulkton then graduating from Faulkton High School in 1967. 

He spent some time in California with family then returned in 1969, where he worked for his dad at the Kegler Fam Equipment and at the family farm.  Jerry continued to work at the farm equipment until 1980 when it closed, which he really enjoyed the customer relationships and learned a lot.  Jerry also had an ammunition business from 1980 along with the Faulkton Gun Club until the late 80’s. Jerry had continued to work at the farm during this time and then it became his main passion until his death. 

Jerry was united in marriage to Vicki Dawn Cuppy on September 26th, 1970, at the United Methodist Church of Faulkton and have remained living in Faulkton for the full 51 years of their marriage.

Jerry enjoyed trapshooting back in the day and was a lifetime member of the Armature Trapshooting Association. He won state and national competitions including 150 and 200 straight targets and was included in the national trap and field magazine, he was a pretty good shot!  Jerry also had a love for hunting and fishing over the years and enjoyed many hunts with local folks and people from afar.  He enjoyed trips all over including Canada, Alaska and he got the record in the Gulf of Mexico for a Blue Marlin in 1982.

Jerry loved to travel and enjoyed some great trips with Vicki and his father while still at the implement dealership and some trap shoots around the nation.  He also liked to drive and did so much with the ammunition business, going to the farm and spending many winters in Texas and then in Florida meeting many wonderful people along the way. 

Jerry also had a love for food! He loved growing it, cooking it and eating it, he was a connoisseur of food!  From grilling for family and friends and winning awards for his chili, foods in the State Fair Cookoffs and in the Kansas City BBQ Cookoff, to finding recipes and tweaking them to be just right, like the blue cheese dressing which is pretty good.  He just loved to go to different markets, fairs and trade shows and would always find some new spices or a cookbook!  Jerry enjoyed his garden as well and was so happy to give most of the things he grew away to family and friends. 

Jerry is survived by his wife, Vicki; daughter, April (Darrell) Schaefers of Larkspur, CO; daughter, Sallie (Jay) Traver of Box Elder, SD; grandson, Derek Schaefers of Castle Rock, CO; grandson, Karson Schaefers of Colorado Springs, CO; brother, Jerome Kegler of Elmhurst, IL; brother, John (Rose) Kegler of Redfield, SD; sister-in-law, Valerie (Paul) Powell of Haleyville, SC; sister-in-law, Sandy (Jerry) Maier of Brookings, SD; along with many beloved nieces and nephews. 

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents: Lloyd and Sallie Kegler; sister, JoAnn Fish; and brother-in-law, Cal Lindeman.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Jerry’s arrangements.
