Marian Armstrong, 79, of Faulkton, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Faulkton Area Medical Center.
A celebration of life will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at the United Church of Faulkton, with Pastor Jeff Adel presiding. Burial will follow in the Faulkton Cemetery. A prayer service will be 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at the church with visitation one-hour prior.
Marian Leann Rosenaw was born April 14, 1942 at Cresbard, SD to Albert B. and Hazel G. (Emm) Rosenaw.
Marian was active in school activities throughout her school years including girls’ basketball, high school band, and homecoming queen candidate. She graduated from Cresbard High School with the class of 1960. She then attended two years of college at Dakota Wesleyan College at Mitchell, South Dakota.
In early 1963 Marian moved to Faulkton where she began working at the old Faulkton nursing home as a nurse's aide. Marian was part of the original staff that moved into the new John P. Shirk Memorial Home. She worked for many years at Faulkton Senior Living, finally retiring on June 1, 2020. She will be remembered for starting the activities program at the nursing home in Faulkton.
In February of 1963, Marian was attending a birthday party for Don Golay and at this party she was introduced to a fellow party guest, Gerald Armstrong. They were married July 24, 1963, at the United Methodist Church in Faulkton. To this union four children were born: twins Jack and Jill, Scott, and Scarlett.
In 1972 Marion, Gerald, and Scott moved to Pueblo, Colorado, where they ran a motel. In 1973 the Armstrong family relocated to Lebanon, Missouri where they managed the Shepherd Hills Motel.
In 1980 the family moved back to Faulkton as Gerald’s health began to fail. Gerald passed away October 2,1986.
Marian was a South Dakota emergency medical technician working for the Faulk County ambulance and the Aberdeen Ambulance Service. Marian also worked for several years at Vogel’s C Store.
Marian is survived by one son, Scott of Faulkton; daughter, Scarlett (Kristen) O'Connell, Eagan, MN; grandchildren, Ayden and Elsa Radway, Eagan, MN; sister, Carol Ekse, Sioux Falls; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Hazel Rosenaw; husband, Gerald; twins, Jack and Jill in 1964; brothers, Richard Hill and Charles Newman; sisters: Ina Holsing and Darlene Gullickson; brothers-in-law: Paul Ekse, Marvin Holding, and Norman Gullickson.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Marian’s arrangements.
