Barbara Gauer
September 21, 1947 ~ April 8, 2022
Barbara Gauer, 74, of Faulkton, passed away surrounded by her family, on Friday, April 8, 2022, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2022, at the United Church of Faulkton, with visitation one hour before the service.
Barbara Jean Benning was born on September 21, 1947, to Russell and Betty (Sievers) Benning in Redfield, SD. She attended grade school in Miranda and graduated from Faulkton High School in 1966. Following high school, she attended Stewart’s School of Hairstyling in Aberdeen. Barb was a beautician for many years then a daycare provider while also working with the developmentally disabled and with the NEMH Center, where she had many friends.
Barb was involved in many community events while living in Faulkton. She coordinated the concession stand for the Faulkton girls’ softball organization. She was a member of the Faulkton V.F.W. Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary of Cresbard, where she held many offices. Barb was also a member of the Women of the Moose of Aberdeen #590. The beginnings of the post prom committee in Faulkton were started by Barb. Memories of Barb will always include a “sweet” thought. She had a fondness for candy.
Barb was a sports enthusiast. You would see her at sporting events of all types, especially those that her son was participating in and later coaching. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren and daycare children. She was known to arrive before the teams. She loved to bowl and held many offices for the local leagues and was the association’s secretary for many years. Barb was a puzzle master. The more challenging the puzzle, the better.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Troy (Natalie) Gauer of Milbank, SD; grandchildren: Tanner (Kerissa), Riley, and Sawyer; siblings: Dick (Kim) Benning of Redfield, Peg (Kevin) Roseland of Redfield, and Steve (Kris) Benning of Aberdeen; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Barbara’s arrangements.

Troy and Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this most challenging time. Your Mom always had a smile on her face and was so pleasant to be around! Cherish the memories and celebrate her life! Bob & Melanie Schraeder 🙏🏻
Troy, Natalie, and family, So very sorry to learn of your mom’s passing. We both have good memories of times we spent with her. Please know your family is in our thoughts and prayers. Rest In Peace, Barb.
Hugs and prayers to all of Barbs Family. She was a sweet lady. Mom and dad hired her to babysit the Anderson kids back in the day…Cindy and Kathy were always nice and well mattered but that brother of ours, Tom was not so much!!! I have many memories of Barb when we used to go up to Vern and her Wecota home and play a lot of cards. That's where we were when Elvis Presley died!
Give my mom and dad and Russell and Betty hugs from us.
Sorry to hear Barb is no longer with us, I pray the peace of our Lord Jesus comforts you all until we see her again.
