Nilas Krog
August 14, 1937 ~ June 7, 2022
Nilas Norretta Krog, 84, of Ft. Pierre, formerly of Miller, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at her home.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 13, 2022, at the First Presbyterian Church, Miller, with Rev. Janice Palmer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial at Hillcrest Cemetery, Miller, will be at a later date.
Nilas was born August 14, 1937, in Miller, SD, to Floyd and Una (Palmer) McKinney. Nilas married Lowell Krog on June 1, 1956, in Miller. To this union, they were blessed with five children: Jack, Lexa, Loretta, Shayne and Rob.
Nilas and Lowell raised their family south of Highmore. Nilas spent her days on the ranch gardening, raising chickens, milking cows, and sewing clothes for her family. In 1981, Lowell and Nilas moved to Miller. Nilas began working at Good Samaritan Society and then moved to Hand County Memorial Hospital. After her retirement, she spent her time gardening, crocheting, camping, fishing, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Every year, Lowell and Nilas looked forward to spending a week at the South Dakota State Fair.
Nilas is survived by her children: Jack, Lexa (Tom) Richardson, Loretta McQuistion, Shayne (Shellie) Krog, and Rob Krog; grandchildren: Jason, Cody, Andy, John, and Erik Krog, Travis Richardson, Randi Norman, Jamie Haefer, Loni McQuistion, Casey Krog, Alissa Hillmer, Kimberly Davenport; 18 great grandchildren; and sister; Callie McKinney.
Nilas was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell; her parents: Floyd and Una McKinney; parents-in-law: Eaner and Esther Krog; granddaughter, Brandy Jean Krog; sister, Jan (Ron) Morrison; brother, Jess McKinney; sisters-in-law: Doris Keyser, Phyllis Sterrett, Velma Schabot, and Margaret Nielsen; and brothers-in-law: Dick Krog, Lyle Krog, Dale Krog, LeRoy Krog, and Russell Krog.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Nilas' arrangements.
