Dan Lammers, 67, of Miller passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at his home, surrounded by loved ones.
Memorial service will be 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 29, 2022, at Reck Funeral Home, Miller, Luke Clement, officiating. A visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
Dan was born the second of seven children to Lee and Patricia (Weise) Lammers on October 19, 1954 at the Miller Hospital. Dan’s youth was spent on the family farm before he graduated from Fairview High School in Polo in 1972.
From 1973-1975, Dan attended the University of South Dakota at Springfield where he graduated with a degree in agriculture and mechanics. After college, he worked at the Redfield State Hospital Facility and School as an attendant. During this time, he became a founding member of the Strongheart Motorcycle Club. Dan left the hospital and worked as a wrangler and farm hand in the area for several years before moving to Sioux Falls where he acted as a salesman for the Minnesota Valley Breeders Association. In 1983, Dan moved to Rapid City when he was offered a position at the 777 Bison Ranch to begin a new career in ranching.
On October 19, 1985, Dan married Laurel Smith and the couple lived and raised their two daughters, Libby and Emily, in Rapid City. The family moved back to the Lammers homestead in Miller in 1997 when Dan’s father retired from farming. Dan took over managing the land and cattle until 2021 when he retired.
Through the years, Dan enjoyed reading, grilling, the annual pheasant hunt, and watching Vikings football. He loved his many trips to the Sturgis Bike Rally and Hawaii. After his two grandsons were born, Dan cherished going on family camping trips and sharing his passion for farming with them during rides in the tractor and the side-by-side.
Dan’s kind and gentle spirit will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Dan is survived by his wife, Laurel; children: Libby (Kenneth) Jones; Emily (Stephen) Lammers; siblings: Duane (Rose) Lammers, Dave (Barb) Lammers, Ken (Sue) Lammers, Suzy (Luke) Wernsmann, Pam (Chuck) Hamlin, Jackie (Andy) Clemen; grandchildren: Tobias and Maverick Jones; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Dan's arrangements.

We are saddened to learn of Dan’s passing. He was a dear friend who will be missed. He always had a hugh smile and a twinkle in his eyes. He was taken too soon. May he Rest In Peace.
I used to love being with Dan when he was doing his farming and ranching stuff. At the H O, the triple 7, his Dad's place, him & Lori's place. If we were feeding cows, checking cows or cutting silage. Those were some of the best times, with Dan. Ya know cause we could ride around & bullshit. He was doing what he loved to do. Jerry Clement
Laurel & family, I am so sorry for your loss of Dan. May you find peace and comfort in your faith, family & friends. God bless you, my dear classmate.
