Reiko Jonnell Mike, 51, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe member, entered the spirit world Monday, December 12, 2022, at Denver Health Medical Center, Denver, CO.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. MST, Friday, December 30, 2022, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in the Eagle Butte Cemetery. A wake service will be 6:00 p.m. MST, Thursday, December 29, 2022, at the church with a procession from the four-mile junction at 4:00 p.m.

Reiko was born in Oakland, California to Yvonne Mike Garreaux and Jonathan Mike. She grew up in Eagle Butte, SD spending most of her younger life in the China town area. She attended school at Cheyenne-Eagle Butte and St. Joseph Catholic School in Chamberlain, SD. While attending school at St. Joseph she was crowned Miss St. Joseph, started Indian dancing, was a Fancy Shawl Dancer and competed in several competitions, winning the majority of the time.

She attended job corps in Utah, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and South Dakota. She attended school at United Tribes in Bismarck, ND, then after school she began to travel, finding employment wherever she went. Her work skills and experience helped her with her everyday life. Reiko went to Denver, Colorado where she met the love of her life, Michael Holmes, her best friend, and her mentor.

She spent the remainder of her life with Michael Holmes and her dog, Shunka.

Reiko is survived by her special friend, Michael Holmes of Denver, CO; son, Calib Two Hearts of Dickenson, ND; daughter, Chyler Lillion Von Weston of Riverton, WY; extended family: Susie Payne and family, Jess and Lori Mike of Eagle Butte, Anthony Pearman of Swiftbird, Delbert and Shantoya Bruguier, of Cottonwood Creek, Markata Chasing Hawk of Eagle Butte, Rose (Donel) Newbrough of Eagle Butte; grandmother, Hannah Morris of Carrolton, Texas; and aunt, Lydia Weston of Kodiak, Alaska.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Jonathon Mike; son, Coleton Mike; Seraphine and Lillie Gareaux, Peter Barringer, Betty Vance, Carl Vance, Fred Holmes, and Chris Shorty Bardeaux.

The Family of Reiko Jonnell Mike wishes to thank you for your heartfelt thoughts, kind words, and all the prayers. We so much appreciate your words of comfort and continued prayers. Please do not feel offended if we missed you, it wasn’t intentional.
