August 28, 1962 ~ January 4, 2023

Annette Marie (Galvin) Wanner, 60, of Faulkton, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at the Faulkton Area Medical Center surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Langerhans Histiocytosis X (a disease that only affects 1 in 35 million women).

A celebration of life will take place at 6:00 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2023, St. Patrick’s Day, at Chrystal’s Bar in Redfield, SD, preceded by a private family burial in Athol, SD.

Annette Marie Galvin was born August 28, 1962, to Edward “Jerry” Gerald and Lois (Muellenberg) Galvin in Redfield, SD.  She grew up at Athol, SD, in an Irish, fun-loving family including her three sisters and five brothers.

Annette graduated from Redfield High School in 1980.  She met the love of her life and partner Steve Wanner in Orient on New Year’s Eve 1980.  They were married in August of 1981 and to this union two daughters were born, Lacey and Whitney.

While still in high school, Annette started her nursing career as a CNA at the James Valley Nursing Home in Redfield.  After high school, she attended Lake Area Tech in Watertown graduating as an LPN in 1981.  She began working in Faulkton as an LPN in August 1981.  Her hard work and passion led her to become a registered nurse and she graduated from Presentation College in 1988.  She began working at Avera St. Luke’s in Aberdeen in 1988 and continued working simultaneously at the Faulkton Hospital.  She served as Director of Nursing in Faulkton from 1990-1994 and 1997-2000.  She worked at Avera St. Luke’s in the float pool which allowed her to work on every floor and learn skills in every department.  Her passion to make a difference for those she worked with and cared for was one of her greatest gifts.  She was quick with a smile, hug, laugh, or a chocolate from her pocket to bring hope and joy to those around her.  She prayed daily for the ability to do what was asked of her by those who might need her.  Her goal each shift was to have her patients be glad she was their nurse for the day, providing some light in their storm.  She was the kind of nurse you wanted to care for your loved ones!  Her retirement from nursing in June of 2021 was not what she wanted but with Covid requirements it was not possible to wear protective gear with her oxygen needs.

Annette enjoyed spending time with her family on camping trips and was forever planning the next one!  She enjoyed many concerts and comedians.  She attended car races supporting Steve’s driving as his biggest fan.  She collected bears and loved meeting friends and colleagues for lunch.

She is survived by her husband Steve; daughters: Lacey (Jason) Currington and Whitney (Jesse) Lewton, grandchildren: Amelia, Charlotte, and Annabel Currington and Sawyer, Bridger, and Rosalie Lewton; step granddaughter, Tauni; siblings: Gwen Galvin-Johanson, Ed (Judy) Galvin, Jon (Sandy) Galvin, Bryan (Vanessa) Galvin, Holly (Dean) Bottum, Jaymes (Lyn) Galvin, Colin (Vicki) Galvin, and Marijo (Shannon) Gulbranson; aunt, Marilyn VanVleet; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Annette’s arrangements.

A Celebration of Life was held on March 17, 2023 at 6:00 PM at Chrystal's Bar, 1202 W 3rd St in Redfield, South Dakota 57469

In our hearts you hold a place no one could ever fill. You will always be remembered, loved and missed.

  20. Grandma, everyday I miss you more. I miss rubbing your feet everyday after school and our very interesting conversations. I've never looked up to anyone the way I do to you. I strive to grow up to be at least half the woman you were. You were my rock, my safe space, and my person. You were such a light in our lives and had such a beautiful soul. I could keep writing all day but it would never be enough to describe what a incredible human being you were. You had the most captivating eyes, a smile that turned heads, and a radiating aura. I love you so so much. It's great to know you're at peace and with your mom and dad. Thank you for being the most influential person in my life. Love you most, Charlotte.

  21. I’m so sorry for your loss. Annette was my nurse after I had surgery in 1990. I’ve had a few hospital stays in my life. There was NEVER another who impressed me more… she was so exceptionally kind & attentive… simply THEE BEST. I never forgot her! I was so sad to know she left this world & all of you! My sympathy & prayers are with you! Hugs!

  22. Annette’s love and caring filled any room she was in.  She always had a sparkle in her eye!  She planned and planned so people she loved could get together.  The love she had for her family was admirable-forever was she saying how lucky she was!  Without her and Deb, I may never have been a nurse, they made studying fun.  I will miss her forever.  And I will adopt her “never say goodbye” and say see ya my dear friend Annette, the world is a better place because you were in it, love you!!
Prayers to Steve, Lacey, Whitney and their families as well as Annette’s siblings—and to all that loved her, she will be missed🙏💗

  23. Annette was a joy to work with in Faulkton. She deeply cared about people and accepted everyone like a friend. Faulkton was blessed to have her presence and service. My prayers for Steve and family as you celebrate her life.

  24. I worked with Annette many years ago at Avera St Luke’s. Her kindness and compassion for her patients was so easy for her and just came naturally to her. I remember her always with a smile on her face. Sending my prayers to her family for comfort, peace and strength during this time.
