Roy Hale Jr. was born October 6, 1965, to Roy Hale Sr. and Lila (Red Bear) Hale in Eagle Butte, SD. He grew up in Dupree, SD.
Roy was a good carpenter and he also worked as a security guard for Red Lake Casino. Last year he worked for Standing Rock Housing, moving to a supervisor position after a time. He was very happy to get this position. Roy was a hard worker, and he was willing to help when needed.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and his little sister, Mary Little Star. He taught his little sister all about hunting and fishing. Now Roy is in Heaven hunting and fishing with his dad and brothers.
Roy came to know Jesus Christ in October of 2021, and he was baptized November 14, 2021. Roy’s life took a turn for the better. He quit drinking, got his own place, and had a steady job. He often stood up in church and thanked Jesus for changing his life.
He is survived by his children: Brian Shock, Kyle Shock, Elisa Hahne, Kimimila Hale, and Akichita Hale; siblings: Willard Yardley (Lil), Pam Hale, Hazel (Randy) Hahne, Karen (Chug) Garreau, David Hale, Mary (Travis) Little Star; and sister-in-law, Wilma Yardley.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Roy’s arrangements.

Roy will be missed. He was friendly, kind & a respectful coworker.
I first met Roy last year at the Housing Authority. What I can say about Roy is no matter what, he was always willing to converse about anything. He always had a lesson to teach or a joke to have. I always remember Roy coming to work and always greeted me with a Good morning!! And after I have helped him, “thank you!” Each day I saw him I always heard a Good morning. Now it’s been silent. Kind of saddened you can’t hear him laugh or being around the properties any longer.
He was always learning and did his best to make things happen at his own pace.
He asked who my father was, and he was so happy cause he said he knew my father, as they attended the Crow Creek Tribal School in Stephan, SD. He wanted to meet my father again but sadly that can no longer happen.
He was always ready to have a question to ask or a tale to give. My sincerest condolences to all who knew him, friends, family, and the like.
I am glad to have met him and my mornings will be quiet without his chipper Good Morning Hunter. May he rest in peace.
