JoAnne Oaks, 82, of Gettysburg, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at her home.
In honor of her wishes, no services will be held at this time.
JoAnne Marie Bown was born to Robert and Dorothy (McGilvrey) Bown in Gettysburg, SD on June 5, 1941. She was the third of seven daughters that were ultimately born into this family, along with two brothers.
JoAnne lived most of her life in South Dakota but also spent time in California, Colorado, and Texas. Her two main interests in life were cooking and politics, which she could talk about for hours. She loved sharing her best dishes with family and friends while having a lively discussion about local, state, and national elections.
JoAnne is survived by two children: Christine Maddox and David Oaks; five sisters: Janet, DiAnn, Robbie, Vicki, and Kate; one brother, Jeff; and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jerry; and sister, Donna.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with JoAnne’s arrangements.
