Ian A. “Mato” Lightfoot, 35, of Rapid City, entered the spirit world on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. MST, Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Red Scaffold. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A wake will be 6:00 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the church.
Ian was born on July 22, 1988, in Pierre, SD. He was named “Mato Ohitilla” meaning Brave Bear. He went to North Junior High and Stevens High School in Rapid City, SD. Ian often worked as a prep cook at fast food restaurants. He loved hanging out with his kids and attending cook outs. He also spent eight years in Sioux Falls helping to care for his mom.
Ian is survived by his children: Lyra (Wubby) Lightfoot of Sioux Falls, SD, Aryl (Cubby) Lightfoot of Sioux Falls, SD, Ian Lightfoot II of Billings, MT, Weston Lightfoot of Billings, MT, Laiel Lightfoot of Billings, MT, and Layla Lightfoot of Billings, MT; his children’s mother, Mildred Iron; his mother, Geraldine Bear Stops of Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Devona Bearstops of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers: Jaydee (Darshane) Bear Stops of Rapid City, SD and Bradley Lightfoot of Yankton, SD.
Ian is preceded in death by his grandparents: Pete Bear Stops, Vern and Mary Jane Red Horse, Romanus Bear Stops; aunt, Gloria Sitting Crow; cousins: Wilfred Antonio, Mary Dupris, Charon Sitting Crow, Lola and Amber Bear Stops; and friend, Luke Ashmore.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Mato’s arrangements.




This world just got a whole lot smaller without you Brother. I'll always remember our great times together. Rest Easy Brother. Love You.
