Geraldine “Gerry” Hansen, 92, of Faulkton and formerly of Orient, called home on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the Faulkton Senior Living.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 29, 2024, at the United Church of Faulkton with Pastor Shawn Stoll presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery, Orient after lunch and fellowship at the church.
Gerry was born January 15, 1932, to Claude and Ethel (Langford) Harris of Orient, SD. Gerry was the youngest child born to this union, being about 14 years younger than her closest brother. It is said by family members that she was the apple of the family eye and a source of joy to her mother and father. She attended school and graduated from Orient High School in 1950. On September 30, 1950, she married the love of her life, Leslie D. Hansen. They eventually moved and lived on the family farm north of Orient where they raised six children.
Gerry worked as a homemaker and farmers wife until the mid-1960’s when she began working at Faulkton Hospital as a nurse’s aide, then at the J.P. Shirk Home also as a nurse’s aide. In the 1980’s she went to work for the State of South Dakota as a home health aide for Faulk County and retired in early 2000. Gerry and Leslie moved off the family farm after purchasing Leslie’s parent’s home just south of Faulkton in about 2009.
Gerry was a member of the Orient Methodist Church, Orient Methodist Ladies Aide Society, and the Orient PTA. She was active in following and watching her children in school and summer activities. With several classmates, she helped organize Orient All School Reunions for the Orient Hawk School.
She and Leslie would be very proud that they were able to purchase the family farm before retirement and that all six of their children and all nine of their grandchildren have graduated from institutions of higher education.
Survivors include sons: Ross (Eva) Hansen of Orient, Donald (Nancy) Hansen of Egan, and David Hansen of Orient; daughters: Charlene Wiesenborn of Faulkton and Judy Hansen of Rapid City; sisters-in-law: Loretta (Hansen) Ketterling and Patty (Roseland) Hansen; nine grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Dale; son, Larry Lee; her parents: Claude and Ethel Harris; two step-mothers: Mary (Anglin) Harris and Anne (Perry) Harris; two bothers: James and Kenneth; and one sister, Harriet Jonasen.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Geraldine’s arrangements.
