Janet Semmler, 73, of Ree Heights, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society, Miller.
Celebration of Janet’s life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Ree Heights Auditorium, Ree Heights. Burial will be at Morningside Cemetery, Ree Heights.
Janet Lee Goehring was born February 5, 1950, in Pierre, SD to Raymond and Loretta (Mattheis) Goehring. She grew up as the oldest of 7 children on a farm outside of Harrold, SD, and graduated from Harrold High School in 1968.
Janet was united in marriage to Newton Semmler on November 7, 1970, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harrold. To this union three children were born: Matthew, April, and Wendy. Janet and Newton made their home on a farm north of Highmore. They then moved to Ree Heights in 1976 where she lived until 2021.
Janet was involved in the Ree Heights Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Town and Country Club, and Ree Heights PTO.
After Newton died in 1996, she kept busy as a bookkeeper for the Ree Heights Elevator and cooking at Hand County Memorial Hospital and Miller School.
She enjoyed spending time with her sisters and children. She was proud of her children but was especially proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their events and texting and calling them about random topics at random times.
She will be missed by her children and grandchildren: Matthew (Jennifer) Semmler and their children: Thomas, Emily, and Joseph; April (Ryan) Lovrien and their children: Reagan and Kinsey; and Wendy Semmler; siblings: Susan (Terry) Tople, Jim (Rita) Goehring, Judy (Tim) Brady, John Goehring, Mark (Elaine) Goehring, and RuthAnn (Jeff) Kiepke; and many nieces and nephews.
She is now reunited with her parents, Raymond and Loretta; an infant brother, Royal; and the love of her life, Newton.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Janet’s arrangements.

So sorry for your loss Matt, Wendy and April. Thanks so much for having the funeral on here so I could watch it. I just couldn't make it over. It was a lovely service and I bet she was grooving to the music. I bowled with her for several years and we had a great time. She was quite a gal and so so fun. She made the world a better place for her being in it. Till we meet again dear lady. Babby
