Matthew W. Collins, 52, of Hoven, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024, in Roscoe, SD.
A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg with Pastor Jeff Adel presiding. A prayer service will be 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the church.
Matthew Wayne Collins was born May 19, 1971, in Denver, CO to Jim and Janice (Hummel) Collins. At a young age the family moved to Viborg, SD, where Matt received his education from Viborg High School, graduating in 1990.
He moved to Belle Fourche where he made his home until marrying Melissa Hunnel at Belle Fourche, SD on November 13, 2004. They moved to Hoven where they raised their three children: Christian, Gabriella, and Kendall.
Matt loved the agricultural way of life working for area elevators where he drove truck and made lifelong friends. He truly never met a stranger and was always up for a good cup of coffee, conversation, some laughs, or a game of farm simulator. He and the family enjoyed trips back home to enjoy Danish Days, a summer vacation or time out fishing. And Matt never failed to miss his yearly Sturgis Rally trip with friends.
Matt’s life will forever be cherished by his wife, Melissa; children: Christian, Gabriella, and Kendall, all of Hoven; mother, Janice Sampson, Sturgis; stepfather, Harris Sampson, Viborg; brothers: Shawn (Stacy) Collins, Belle Fourche and Sam Collins, Sturgis; sister, Angela Kell, Boise, ID; and aunt and uncle, Marly and Judy Gerdes, Hurley, SD.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Collins; grandparents: Sam and Esther Collins and Gordon and Margaret Hummel; mother-in-law, Stephanie Hartung; and cousin, Jody Endres.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Matt’s arrangements.

I will miss seeing Matt relaxing outside his mom's place, always with a smile , a hello, and of course a cold adult beverage. Ride in peace.
Melissa and children, We send prayers and hugs to you all. Remembering Matt when it would snow and he'd clear off the sidewalk with the snow blower or he would just walk over for a visit with Dave. As you told me, if I need anything let you know, well now it's my turn to say, if you need anything let me know.
