Lawrence F. Dow, 73, of Beaverton, OR, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller, after battling Alzheimer’s disease for 12 years.

Funeral Mass is 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 6, 2024, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Miller, with Father John Short, celebrant.  Burial will be at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Miller, at a later date.

Lawrence Frederick Dow was born in Detroit on August 3, 1950.  Larry lived life as his own boss on his own terms. He loved loud engines, loud music and loud parties.

He loved his cars and the freedom they represented. He gave them names like “hog-eye” a ford rambler, and “the hulk” a green landcruiser. In his early adult life he drove around Michigan in a Porsche 914 until a string of speeding tickets threatened to take away his drivers license. Instead of leaving his cars, he left the state. Which led him to Las Vegas then Reno, Nevada where he met the love of his life Teresa in 1977 and was happily married for 42 years. They moved to Beaverton, Oregon in 1990 where they gave birth to their son William. He loved living in the Pacific Northwest.

He worked extremely hard as a general contractor for over 40 years. From wooden model cars, to canoes, to houses, to the stage at the MGM Grand, to tree forts in the backyard, he loved to build.

He loved the outdoors and spent the summers camping on the Oregon coast with his family. He rode bikes for hours on end, played slam-ball on the trampoline, and ran around the woods like Rambo happily getting shot with paintballs by his son and friends. He lived a life full of adventure and had all the stories to prove it. Until his last day, he was always full of smiles and laughs.

He was the best husband, father, and brother a family could ask for, and will live on in our hearts and minds forever.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa (Bonebright) Dow; son, William Dow; and siblings: Lynne Keeton, Isi Rudnick, Leah (Tomas) Granados, and Neal Rudnick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Dow and Margaret Foucault; and brother-in-law, James Keeton.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Larry’s arrangements.

A Mass was held on May 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 709 East 4th St. in Miller, SD 57362
