Avis Niederbaumer

Avis Niederbaumer, 100, of Faulkton, joined her husband in Heaven on their 76th wedding anniversary, Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at the Faulkton Senior Living.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 21, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wecota with Vicar Tom Penrod officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at Wecota. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Avis Schilder was born November 26, 1923, in Grinnell, Iowa to Harry and Velma (Gooding) Schilder. At the age of 14, she moved with her family to a farm west of Burkmere, SD then to a farm near Norbeck, SD. She attended country school, graduating from Cresbard High School in 1941. Avis got her RN degree from St. Luke’s Nurses Training in 1944. She went to basic training from the Army Nurses Corp in 1945 in Colorado Springs, CO. Avis spent three years at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver. After her military discharge in 1948, she moved back to the Norbeck family farm.
Avis reunited with her high school classmate, Orval Niederbaumer. They were married on October 16, 1948. She continued working part time at the Faulkton Hospital while helping Orval farm. Avis retired from nursing in 1982.
Avis and Orval spent 28 years wintering in Mesa, AZ where she enjoyed many bridge games and golf with her friends. Orval passed away June 21, 2012. Avis continued to reside in Faulkton.
Avis was an active member of Immanual Lutheran Church at Wecota. Dedicating many hours of service wherever she was needed.
Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren: David (Kerry) Niederbaumer of Huron and their children: Kristi White, Jesse (Jamie) Niederbaumer and children, Tyler, Adam and Julie; Matt (Cindy) Niederbaumer and children, Belle, Jonah, and Mauer; Curtis (Coreen) Niederbaumer of Brooklyn Park, MN and their children, Jody (Dan) Mycka and children, Lucas and Stella, and Ryan (Michelle) Niederbaumer and daughter, Brielle; Cindy (Gary) Nelson of Rapid City and daughter, Chrystal Hill and child, Ava; and Dean (Jane) Niederbaumer of Aberdeen and their children: Michael (Anngette) Niederbaumer and children, Owen and Olivia, Paul (Lea) Niederbaumer and children, Thomas, Cody, and Kali, and Sara (Hunter) Serfoss; sister-in-law: Elda Leisten of Kenosha, WI.
Preceding her in death was her husband; parents; son, Phillip; sisters: Naomi Larson, Lola Darling, and Arlys Gullickson; and one brother, Wayne Schilder.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Avis’ arrangements.




To the family of Avis, we send our deepest sympathies. I can only imagine the reunion with so many in heaven. Avis was a dear lady and we were all blessed to know and love her. Many prayers and hugs.

Dear Niederbaumer family, my Prayers are with you all. Avis was such a wonderful lady! She loved her family and always was so nice to me when I was around her with Cindy. May God be with you at this time and always bless you with memories of your her. I imagine she was greeted with, well done good and faithful servant, and enjoyed her anniversary with Orval in the presence of the Lord.
Eldon had many a tale to tell about his and Marty’s times with Orville and Avis back in the day. I too had the privilege of getting to know them and enjoyed them immensely. My condolences to family and friends. Avis was a great lady.
